DUI charges filed
ELYSBURG - Ryan J. Pensyl, 20, of 656 Pine St., Kulpmont, was charged with three counts of driving under the influence, failure to drive on the right side of the road, driving on roadways laned for traffic, driving with a suspended or revoked license and underage drinking following an investigation into a Feb. 21 traffic stop on Route 54 near Vought's Equipment Rental.
Ralpho Township Police Patrolman Chris Dailey said he stopped a vehicle Pensyl was driving after observing him swerving across the center and fog lines and putting on turn signals where no turns existed. Once stopped, Pensyl refused to take field sobriety tests and was taken into custody, police said. They said a mostly consumed half-gallon bottle of vodka was found in the rear seat area. Pensyl was taken for chemical testing and results showed his blood alcohol level was .234 percent.
Charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for April 22.
