Grandmother assaulted

THARPTOWN - Brandon Strausser, 33, of 231 Center St., Tharptown, was charged by Patrolman Chad Yoder with simple assault and harassment after he allegedly grabbed his 78-year-old grandmother, Ruth Latsha, by the hair and threw her onto a couch and floor before striking her head off a wall several times at their home.

Latsha suffered injuries to her face, hands and ribs, police said.

The assault occurred at about 4 p.m. Friday.

Strausser was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones of Mount Carmel and committed to Snyder County Prison in lieu of $20,000 cash bail.

Penney's worker charged

SELINSGROVE - Christina Fischetti, 37, of Freeburg, has been charged by state police at Selinsgrove with theft for allegedly stealing $1,374.99 by making false returns at JC Penney's in the Susquehanna Valley Mall while she was employed at the store over the last six weeks.

Hospital disturbance

THARPTOWN - Barry C. Hughes, 44, of 1119 N. Lombard St., Shamokin, will be charged by Coal Township Patrolman Chris Williams with disorderly conduct involving a disturbance at 7:45 a.m. Sunday in the emergency room at Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital.

Police said Hughes cursed and threatened emergency room personnel.

Teens charged in fight

COAL TOWNSHIP - A 13-year-old male will be charged by Coal Township police with simple assault and harassment relating to a fight shortly before 1 p.m. Jan. 22 at Shamokin Area Middle/High School.

Police said another 13-year-old male involved in the fight will be charged with harassment.
