Crash near Burnside
COAL TOWNSHIP - Richard Drumheiser Jr., 53, of 529 S. Market St., Shamokin, escaped injury after crashing a 1993 Nissan sport-utility vehicle into a tree along Route 125 about 5:40 a.m. Saturday.
Coal Township Patrolman Chris Lapotsky said Drumheiser was driving south near Burnside when his vehicle crossed the northbound lane and drove off the roadway. Township firefighters assisted in rescuing Drumheiser from the Nissan. It came to rest partially on its passenger side, and was towed. Drumheiser was taken by AREA Services Ambulance to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, for a medical evaluation.
Hit and run
COAL TOWNSHIP - Ronald Kwiatkowski, 68, of 1459 Tioga St., told Coal Township police someone drove into a brick fixture near his driveway entrance, damaging the fixture and an Eagle statue. Damages were estimated at $450, according to township Patrolman Chad Yoder. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 570-644-0333.
Cash found
COAL TOWNSHIP - An undisclosed sum of money was found near the Driver's License Center in the Anthra Plaza lot. Coal Township Patrolman Chad Yoder said the money was found about four months ago before being turned in. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 570-644-0333.
Disobeys stop sign
COAL TOWNSHIP - Bonnie Pelphrey, 39, of Shamokin, was driving a 2002 Kia van west on Mulberry Street about 5:20 p.m. Friday when she failed to obey a stop sign at Bay Street and crashed into a Toyota Corolla driven by Tara Duzick, 30, of Coal Township, according to Coal Township Patrolman Matthew Hashuga.
Duzick was driving north and had the right of way, police said. Pelphrey's vehicle sustained front-end damage and was driven away. Duzick's vehicle sustained damaged to the passenger side and was towed.
Snow crash
COAL TOWNSHIP - Dawn Scicchitano, 58, of Coal Township, was driving a 2011 Nissan Xterra on Washington Boulevard about 6:55 a.m. Thursday when she lost control on the snow-covered roadway and crashed into a row of five News-Item delivery boxes, according to Patrolman Chad Yoder. The crash occurred at the Route 225 intersection. Scicchitano escaped injury. Her vehicle sustained minor scratches to its front end.
