Contraband

SHAMOKIN - Brandon A. Nixon, 29, an inmate at SCI-Coal Township, was charged by state police trooper Ronald Zanella with a felony count of contraband and a misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled substance for an incident last year.

According to the criminal complaint, filed Oct. 31, prison staff found a small amount of marijuana in Nixon's possession at 9:50 p.m. Oct. 4, 2013. The marijuana was located inside a petroleum jelly jar wrapped in plastic in Nixon's double occupancy cell. When the marijuana was discovered, Nixon admitted it was his.

Zanella said Nixon told him he found the marijuana in the east yard of the prison beneath a rock he kicked over. He hadn't had a chance to smoke any of the marijuana and had left it in his cell to dry out.

Criminal trespass

SELINSGROVE - Cody Allen Long, 20, of Riverside, was charged by state police at Selinsgrove with criminal trespass and criminal mischief relating to an incident at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Walmart north of here.

Police said Long is accused of trespassing at the store and opening several items without paying for them.

Bad check

NATALIE - Jessica Anne Gavin, 37, of Shenandoah, was charged by Mount Carmel Township Chief of Police Brian Hollenbush with issuing a bad check in the amount of $364.90 to Aaron's Heating Oil in Natalie on Dec. 5, 2012.

Blocks stolen

COAL TOWNSHIP - Melinda Biehler, of 1154 Pulaski Ave., reported someone removed an undetermined amount of retaining wall blocks from her backyard between 5 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. Thursday.

The removal of the blocks caused damage to a set of steps that are part of the wall.

Total damage is estimated at hundreds of dollars.

Building code citations

KULPMONT - Russ Moroz, Kulpmont building code official, has cited the following property owners for code violations:

Stephen J. Burda, of 601 Pine St., for violations of the residential rental housing ordinance at 1040 Chestnut St.

George Atiyeh and Apartments and Acquisitions, of 1102 Fullerton Ave., Allentown, for dangerous structure at 955 and 957 Chestnut St.

Thomas C. Valeiko, of 37 Florida Ave., Commack, N.Y., for a dangerous structure at 1263 Chestnut St.

All citations were issued at the office of Magisterial District Judge Hugh A. Jones in Mount Carmel.
