Woman, infant hurt

DELAWARE TOWNSHIP - Katherine M. Ramsey, 26, of Elysburg, and her infant daughter suffered injuries in a one-vehicle accident Monday afternoon at the intersection of Route 54 and Hickory Grove Road in this Northumberland County township.

State police at Milton said Ramsey was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer east on Route 54 at 3:52 p.m. when she failed to negotiate a left curve, causing her vehicle to exit the highway via the south berm. The Trailblazer then traveled back across both lanes and left the highway via the north berm before striking an embankment.

The vehicle ascended the embankment, struck a fence and began overturning before coming to rest on its four wheels.

Ramsey and her daughter, Mya, were discharged Tuesday from Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, according to a nursing supervisor.

Ramsey was wearing a seat belt, while the infant was in a child safety seat, according to police.

Ramsey was cited for failing to drive in a single lane.

Prison assault

SHAMOKIN - Eric Darnell Weedon, 27, an inmate at SCI-Coal Township, was charged by state trooper Ronald Zanella with a felony count of aggravated assault and a misdemeanor count of simple assault after he allegedly attacked correctional officer Nathan D. Kaleta on Jan. 31.

Zanella said the assault occurred as Weedon emerged from his cell. Kaleta suffered abrasions to the forehead, hands and right elbow and bruising below his right eye and ear, police said.

Weedon said he had nothing personal against Kaleta but was upset because he was being transferred away from SCI-Coal Township to another prison and had failed to acquire a job at the new institution, despite filling out numerous job applications, Zanella said in the criminal complaint.
