Cruelty to animals
MOUNT CARMEL - James A. Dougherty, 41, with a last known address of 336 W. Sixth St., Mount Carmel, was charged with three counts of cruelty to animals for an incident that occurred at his former residence May 8.
According to borough police, Dougherty abandoned his residence, leaving three cats without food or water. The property was condemned by Mount Carmel Borough Code Enforcement after finding deplorable conditions inside.
The felines that were rescued were transported to Ruth Steinhart SPCA for care.
Retail thefts
COAL TOWNSHIP - Jenna L. Schickley, 24, of Shamokin, was charged by township police with retail theft for incidents that occurred at Walmart from April 16 to June 13. Police said Schickley stole merchandise on 12 different days totaling $940.06.
Joshua M. Daya, 31, of Elysburg, was charged by township police with retail theft for an incident that occurred at Walmart May 9. Police allege Daya stole a Sony PlayStation 3 and a video game, total value $258.97.
Disorderly conduct
MOUNT CARMEL - Borough police cited a 15-year-old girl for disorderly conduct for an incident in the 200 block of North Park Street at 5:35 a.m. Sunday, June 8.
Police said the girl, who was involved in a domestic disturbance with her mother, exited her home and pulled a mail box off of the residence and threw it and two bottles at a neighbor.
