Crash at 901-81 injures man

FOSTER TOWNSHIP - Harry T. Parfitt, 39, of Mount Carmel, suffered head and neck injuries Thursday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident on Route 901 near an on-ramp for Interstate 81 in this Schuylkill County township.

State police at Frackville reported Parfitt was transported by Minersville Ambulance to Schuylkill Medical Center East in Pottsville.

Police said Douglas Moyer, 71, of Hazleton, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet CK 1500 truck west at about 12:30 p.m. when he attempted to turn left to enter the southbound interstate on-ramp and traveled directly into the path of Parfitt's 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix. Police said Parfitt locked up his brakes, causing his car to skid forward and strike the rear right side of the truck.

Moyer's vehicle spun 180 degrees clockwise before coming to a halt along the on-ramp. Parfitt's auto came to rest at the southwest corner of the interchange.

Moyer escaped injury. Police said both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Moyer was cited by Trooper Edward Sanchez for making an improper left turn.

Both vehicles were towed.

Assisting at the scene were members of Good Will Hose Company, Minersville.
