Man cited

COAL TOWNSHIP - Matthew Griffith, 32, of 1641 W. Lynn St., will be cited for public drunkenness after allegedly being found highly intoxicated Friday at Poplar and Water streets. Police had been notified that an allegedly intoxicated person was staggering and falling down in the street.

Four escape injury

LOWER MAHANOY TOWNSHIP - Four people escaped injury in a two-vehicle accident Sunday night on Route 147 in this Northumberland County township.

State police at Stonington reported Jason E. Smeltz, 33, of Breinigsville, was attempting to enter Route 147 from a parking lot at 6 p.m. when he pulled his 2005 Audi A4 into the path of 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 driven north on the highway by Robert E. Haupt, 78, of Paxinos, resulting in a collision.

Smeltz, his passenger, Noelle J. Gecik, 33, of Breinigsville, Haupt and his passenger, Darlene Z. Haupt, 65, of Paxinos, escaped injury.

Smeltz was cited by Trooper Brian Ronk for improperly entering or crossing a roadway.

Condition update

DANVILLE - The condition of Allison Haskell, 5, of Berwick, who was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash Friday morning on Route 487 in Fishing Creek Township that claimed the lives of her two sisters, has been upgraded from critical to fair at Geisinger Medical Center.

Haskell's mother, Amanda Haskell, 28, of Berwick, also suffered injuries and was originally listed in fair condition. She has since been discharged from Geisinger.

Amanda Haskell's two other daughters, Charlotte, 3, and Abigail, 8, were killed in the 9 a.m. accident.
