Van shears pole

UNION TOWNSHIP - Three people were injured Wednesday morning when a 2002 Ford Windstar van exited County Line Road and sheared off a utility pole in this Union County township.

State police at Milton reported Ryan Lee Lewis, 25, of Northumberland, was driving the van west shortly after 5 a.m. when he failed to negotiate a right curve in the road. The van then traveled through a yard before shearing off a utility pole and overturning.

Lewis suffered a minor injury. His two passengers, Shane P. Koon, 24, and Scott W. Keeling, 27, both of Middleburg, suffered moderate injuries and were transported by ambulance to Evangelical Community Hospital in Lewisburg.

The van sustained severe damage.

Police said Lewis was taken into custody for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending in the accident.

Serious injuries

MONROE TOWNSHIP - Three young people were flown by Life Flight helicopter to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville after suffering serious injuries Tuesday night in a one-car crash on Fisher Road in this Snyder County township.

State police at Selinsgrove identified the victims as Jeremy K. Kline, 22, of 1798 Sunbury Road, Selinsgrove; Nicholas DiFrancesco, 20, of 3488 Foxfield Circle, Perkiomenville, and Audrey M. Lier, 19, of 123 Park Road, Winfield.

Police said Kline was driving a vehicle south on Fisher Road at 10:10 p.m. when he lost control, causing the vehicle to exit the west berm and crash into a tree.

A hospital spokeswoman said Lier was listed Wednesday in critical condition. DiFrancesco was reported in serious condition. Kline underwent emergency room treatment at the hospital before being released.
