Driver 'serious'
TREVORTON - Kenneth J. Duitch, 37, of Trevorton, suffered a neck injury in a one-car crash Wednesday night along Birch Road (Township Route 445) near Cedar Road.
State police at Stonington reported Duitch was driving a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder south at 6:19 p.m. when his vehicle exited the road after going over loose gravel while negotiating an uphill right curve. Police said Duitch attempted to regain control of the vehicle, which re-entered the road and traveled across both lanes before hitting a ditch with its front end. After striking the ditch, the Pathfinder rolled onto its driver's side before coming to rest.
The vehicle was towed from the scene by Paul's Towing.
Duitch was transported by Americus Ambulance to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, where he was listed in serious condition Thursday, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
Also assisting were members of Stonington Fire Company, Trevorton Fire Company and Friendship Hose Co. 552, Sunbury.
Beer theft
ATLAS - Mark James Derr, 20, of 328 S. Grape St., Mount Carmel, has been charged by Mount Carmel Township Chief of Police Brian Hollenbush with theft, retail theft and receiving stolen property relating to a Jan. 8 incident at the Pine Burr along Route 61.
Police reported Derr is accused of stealing a six-pack of beer valued at $7.
Derr, who is on probation for another offense, was arraigned Tuesday by Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones and committed to Northumberland County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail.
Burglary offenses
RALPHO TOWNSHIP - Police here have charged Justin W. Cressinger, 25, of 1120 Rear West Front St., Lot 3, Berwick, with burglary, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.
According to a criminal complaint filed by Patrolman Christopher Grow, Cressinger allegedly entered the residence of Art Hower, 66 Circle View Drive, Elysburg, and stole a sweatshirt, a pair of Wolverine boots, a flashlight and a pair of camouflage pants. Police said the burglary occurred between Nov. 1 and 3.
Multiple charges
MOUNT CARMEL - Joshua Robert Potter, 20, of 439 Vine St., Sunbury, faces multiple charges involving incidents that occurred during the early-morning hours of Dec. 22 in the 300 block of East Center Street.
He is charged by Cpl. David Donkochik with two counts each of theft from a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property, loitering and prowling at night and corruption of minors, and one count of possessing a prohibitive offensive weapon, possessing an instrument of crime and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police reported Potter and a 16-year-old male allegedly stole prescription medications from a car owned by Jerry Matzura, and money from a vehicle belonging to Kaitlyn Anderson.
Police said Potter and the juvenile were found hiding inside a vacant house shortly after the thefts. Upon being taken into custody, police found piles of change, gloves, a pistol pellet gun and drug paraphernalia, plus two knives, hand tools and a Dell laptop in Potter's backpack.
Potter was arraigned Tuesday by Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones and committed to county jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
Heroin possession
MOUNT CARMEL - Adam Joseph Powell, 27, of 49 W. Second St., Mount Carmel, was arraigned Wednesday by Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones on charges of possession with intent to deliver heroin and possession of heroin relating to an incident March 21, 2012, at his residence.
Police reported Powell possessed eight bags of heroin.
Landlord citations
SHAMOKIN - Citations were filed against 11 city landlords for failing to obtain licenses for their rental properties.
Rick Bozza, code officer, filed the citations Thursday against George Atiyeh, of Allentown, Cheryl Daycock, of Leck Kill, Barry Getchey, of Shamokin, Walter Hyde, of Shamokin, Gloria Kallman, of Coal Township, Shawn Kallman, of Coal Township, Leona Mako, of Staffordsville, Va., William Maher, of Kulpmont, Anthony Rosini, of Danville, Jesse Vaughin, of Williamsport, and Randall Weiser, of Herndon.
The annual license fee is $25. Deadline to register was Feb. 15. City ordinance calls for fines between $100 and $500 for each day a landlord is in violation.
