Woman bit

DANVILLE - State police at Milton reported Donna L. Billick, 47, of Catawissa, was bit in the right hand by a 21-year-old woman at Danville State Hospital at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Police did not indicate if the victim was an employee at the hospital or if the known suspect, who was not identified, is a patient.

Police said Billick was attempting to restrain the woman when she was bit.

An investigation is continuing.

Minor injuries

LOWER MAHANOY TOWNSHIP - Makenzie M. McBurney, 18, of Halifax, suffered minor injuries in a one-vehicle crash Wednesday along Route 147 in this Northumberland County township.

State police at Stonington reported McBurney was driving a 2007 Honda Fit south at about 5 p.m. when she lost control of her car while negotiating an uphill right curve in the road. The auto then entered the northbound lane of Route 147 before exiting the highway and striking an embankment with its front end. The vehicle re-entered the northbound lane and overturned onto its roof.

McBurney, who was wearing a seat belt, was cited for failure to drive in a single lane.

Assisting at the scene were personnel from Americus Ambulance, Dalmatia Fire Company and Aurand's Towing.

Stolen Jeep recovered

ZERBE TOWNSHIP - Zerbe Township police reported someone stole a 1996 Jeep Cherokee owned by David Geiswhite, 49, of 1143 W. Susquehanna St., Trevorton, from in front of his residence at 3 a.m. Wednesday.

Police later located the vehicle with its headlights on at 10th and Mahanoy streets.

Police warned residents to lock their car and home doors.

DUI

MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP - Joseph Allen Szido, 18, of 916 N. Orange St., Shamokin, has been charged by Patrolman Patrick McAndrew with driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance, failure to drive in a single lane and careless driving in connection with a Dec. 23 accident on Route 901 between Boylan's Garage and Excelsior.

Police reported Szido, who they said had a blood-alcohol content of .094 percent, also had Delta-9 Carboxy THC (an active component of marijuana and cannabis) in his blood system.

DUI offense

MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP - Beth Ann Kois, 26, of 1014 Centre St., Ashland, was charged by Patrolman Patrick McAndrew with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol relating to a Dec. 16 incident on Route 54/901 near Landscape Services.

Police said Kois had a blood-alcohol content of .156 percent.

DUI

MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP - Michael Anthony Wolfe, 56, of 437 E. Melrose St., Marion Heights, has been charged by Police Chief Brian Hollenbush with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, driving under the influence of a drug or combination of drugs, driving under suspension and careless driving involving a Jan. 3 accident at the Marion Heights baseball field and playground.

Police reported Wolfe had Alprazolam, morphine, Oxycodone, Citalopram, Escitalopram and Levetiracetam in his blood system.

DUI offenses

MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP - David B. Barker, 28, of 229 S. Market St., Mount Carmel, was charged by Patrolman David Stamets with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of a controlled substance and a high-beam violation involving a Nov. 11 incident on Route 54 near Boylan's Garage.

Police reported Barker had a blood-alcohol content of .120 percent and also had Delta-9 Carboxy THC in his blood system.

Two charged

MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP - Kathrina P. Hutchinson, 28, of Harrisburg, was charged by Patrolman David Stamets with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, driving under the influence of a drug or combination of drugs, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to drive in a single lane relating to a Nov. 24 incident on the Merriam Highway (Route 2023).

Police reported Hutchinson had Alprazolam, morphine and Lorazepam in her blood system.

Hutchinson's passenger, Hali Lynn Matzura, 25, of Harrisburg, also was charged by Stamets with possession of Xanax and Suboxone and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Animal cruelty

MOUNT CARMEL - Two borough residents were cited for cruelty to animals after an injured dog was found at their home.

According to borough police, officers were notified a border collie with a broken collar bone was observed lying on a back porch at 246 S. Chestnut St. about 7:50 p.m. Jan. 19. Police obtained necessary care for the dog.

The home's occupants, John Redd, 65, and Louise B. Redd, 53, were cited by Patrolman Jason Drumheller.

Harassment

MOUNT CARMEL - Police say a 19-year-old borough woman attempted to pick a fight inside Turkey Hill Minit Market at Fifth and Market streets on Jan. 18.

Amber Nicholl Eisenhard, of 118 E. Second St., is accused of entering the convenience store about 4:50 p.m. and screaming at a customer.

She was cited by Patrolman Jason Drumheller for harassment and disorderly conduct.

Condition update

DANVILLE - Two people injured in separate accidents this week remained in critical condition Thursday at Geisinger Medical Center.

Glenn Meredith, 52, of Mount Carmel, was injured in a head-on accident Monday on Natalie Mountain near Strong in Mount Carmel Township. He was driving a pickup truck that crashed into a sport-utility vehicle. The crash killed two passengers in the SUV. The SUV's driver, Tina Alexander, 40, of Gordon, was listed in fair condition.

Hazle Rooney was injured in a two-vehicle accident Tuesday on Route 61 in Coal Township near Wal-Mart. Three others injured were treated and released.

Burglary

MILTON - State police at Milton are investigating a burglary at the residence of Carol Keltz, 69, of Marsh Road, Milton, that occurred between noon and 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said someone forced open a window and removed approximately $200 in jewelry and a LG television.

Volunteer charged

WILLIAMS TOWNSHIP - Maryellen Talmadge, 36, of Tower City, has been charged by state police at Lykens with theft for allegedly stealing $80 from a money box while volunteering at a food stand at a wrestling match at Williams Valley High School on Sunday.
