Fraud investigation

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP - State police at Lykens are continuing their investigation into an attempt to obtain approximately $15,000 from a financial account at Upper Dauphin Middle School.

Police said someone pretending to be from the U.S. Department of Transportation faxed the school a form requesting financial account information Jan. 16. The school's business manager sent the unknown actor the school's financial information with her signature. On Jan. 29, the actor used the school's financial information and the business manager's signature to attempt to transfer $15,822.77 from the school's account to the actor's account, but the school's financial institution stopped the transaction from taking place.

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP - State police at Milton reported a 21-year-old Danville resident entered the residence of Carol Cashner, 65, of Route 642, and removed several items of gold jewelry before selling the items at area pawn shops.

Police said the crimes were committed between Jan. 7 and Tuesday.

Car stolen

VALLEY TOWNSHIP - Jonathan R. Dodds, 25, of Minersville, told state police at Milton that someone stole his 1993 Subaru Legacy from a parking area along Red Roof Road off Route 54 in this Montour County township between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said the car is valued at $1,000.

Driver uninjured

COOPER TOWNSHIP - Stephanie G. Solomon, 25, of Catawissa, escaped injury Thursday morning when the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee she was driving struck a guardrail several times along River Drive in this Montour County township after swerving to avoid striking several large rocks along the road.

State police at Milton said Solomon was traveling west at 5:25 a.m. on River Drive west of County Line Drive when she spotted several large rocks on the road that had fallen from an embankment adjacent to the north berm.

Police said Solomon swerved her vehicle to avoid the rocks and lost control, causing her Jeep to travel southwest across the eastbound lane of River Drive and strike guardrail adjacent to the south berm. The Jeep then spun in a counterclockwise direction for approximately 20 feet and struck the guardrail again with its right front, causing it to spin in a counterclockwise direction for 57 feet before its undercarriage hit the guardrail.
