Minor assaulted
COAL TOWNSHIP - Police charged Bridget Ann O'Connell, 34, of 1727 Park Ave., with simple assault, harassment and endangering the welfare of children after an assault at 10:04 p.m. Thursday at her residence.
Police Cpl. Terry Ketchem reported in court documents that O'Connell allegedly struck a 12-year-old female on the thigh with a wooden toilet plunger handle during a dispute. In an interview with police, the youth said that O'Connell had done the same in the past.
The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III of Shamokin.
DUI, hit and run
SHAMOKIN - Charges of driving under the influence, causing an accident, failure to give aid or information and reckless driving were filed against Jenna M. Wasakoski, 37, of 4 S. Shamokin St., based on an investigation into an Aug. 22 crash at Market and Walnut streets.
According to court documents filed by Shamokin City Police Patrolman Raymond Siko II, officers observed a white car travel from the area of the Susquehanna Bank drive-thru onto Water Street with only one headlight illuminated and something dragging from the front of the vehicle.
Police allege the car, driven by Wasakoski, had just struck a 2005 Ford driven by Robert Feeney on Market Street. Feeney told police the other vehicle was traveling east on Walnut Street from a stop sign and had crossed through the "island" intersection area but failed to yield to his northbound car. Wasakoski's car struck the Feeney vehicle in the left front fender, then drove away from the scene, police said. Feeney and a passenger, Catherine Feeney, were not injured and their car was drivable, police said.
Police stopped Wasakoski at Shamokin and Chestnut streets. She failed police sobriety tests and was taken to Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital, where testing showed a blood-alcohol level of .294, police said.
Police filed the charges with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin.
