Crash
RALPHO TOWNSHIP - Police here are investigating a one-vehicle crash that occurred at 12:49 p.m. Monday when a silver Honda Accord sedan driven by Steven Hricenak, 18, was traveling west on Route 54 and lost control while attempting to turn on to Bear Gap Road. According to Ralpho Township Police, the Elysburg man struck a utility pole and heavily damaged his car. Hricenak sustained no injuries and his car was towed from the scene by Tire Ranch, Elysburg. Assisting Ralpho Township Police Chief Stu Appel at the scene were the Elysburg and Overlook fire departments, Elysburg Ambulance and fire police. Crews from PPL's Marion Heights substation responded to replace the damaged pole.
Retail theft
COAL TOWNSHIP - Police charged Christopher E. Ransel, 46, of 236 S. Shamokin St., Shamokin, with retail theft for allegedly attempting to take merchandise valued at $89.88 from Walmart Supercenter July 20.
Drug paraphernalia
COAL TOWNSHIP - Charles Troup III, 21, of 536 N. Second St., Shamokin, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after police said he was found with drug paraphernalia at the intersection of Owl and Independence streets shortly before midnight Aug. 2.
Theft
COAL TOWNSHIP - Tiffany Haddock, 31, of 719 E. Independence St., Shamokin, faces charges of theft and receiving stolen property after police said she stole blank checks from John Oravitz's residence, 612 S. Shamokin St., Shamokin, sometime between July 11 and 15.
Police said Haddock used the checks to make purchases to her own benefit totalling $912.55 at Walmart Supercenter.
Criminal mischief
COAL TOWNSHIP - Heather Buch, of 933 W. Spruce St., reported an unknown person scratched her 2002 Hyundai Sonata while it was parked on Spruce Street near her house.
