SUNBURY - Eight defendants were sentenced recently in the Court of Common Pleas.
- Shane Geary, 31, an inmate at SCI-Coal Township, was ordered Monday by Northumberland County Judge Charles Saylor to serve 82 days to 23 months in county prison on charges of simple assault and criminal mischief relating to a May 10 disturbance at his residence at 1439 W. Fern St., Coal Township. He was given credit for 82 days served in prison.
He was charged by Coal Township police with assaulting his 31-year-old live-in girlfriend, Tara Duzick.
Geary was fined $200 and must make restitution of $475.94 to Duzick.
His sentence runs concurrent to another sentence he is currently serving.
- Justin Petro, 20, of Mount Carmel, was sentenced Monday by Saylor to 3 to 23 months in county prison for possession with intent to deliver spice. He also received a concurrent prison sentence of 3 days to 6 months for driving under the influence of a controlled substance.
Petro was fined $1,050 and will have his driver's license suspended for 12 months.
The defendant was charged by Shamokin police in connection with an incident June 29, 2014.
- David Carper, 26, of Paxinos, was sentenced Monday by Saylor to 5 days to 6 months in county prison for driving under the influence of alcohol and fined $300. He also will have his driver's license suspended for 12 months.
Carper was charged by state police at Stonington in connection with a traffic stop March 8, 2014, at the intersection of Routes 61 and 901 in Mount Carmel Township.
- Troy Tafner, 19, of Strong, was sentenced Monday by President Judge William H. Wiest to 18 months probation and fined $150 for obstructing administration of the law involving a Sept. 1 incident at Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury.
Tafner, a former county corrections officer, was charged by Northumberland County Detective Degg Stark with bringing tobacco into the prison.
- Lonnie Bixler, 48, of Shamokin, was sentenced Monday by Wiest to 16 months intermediate punishment with the first 90 days on house arrest for criminal use of communication facility. Bixler also was ordered to pay a $100 fine.
Shamokin police charged Bixler in connection with an incident May 12, 2014.
- Brian Shaffer Sr., 27, of Shamokin, was sentenced Aug. 3 by Saylor to serve 3 1/2 to 7 years in state prison for a felony count of receiving stolen property, along with concurrent sentences of 1 to 2 years for a pair of simple assault charges. The charges stem from three separate arrests in 2014.
- Adam K. Heim, 35, of Sunbury, was sentenced Aug. 3 by Saylor to serve 6 to 23 months in Northumberland County Prison for felony theft. He was arrested for a January incident in Point Township.
- Jason D. White, 32, of Atlas, was sentenced Aug. 3 by Saylor to serve one year probation for disorderly conduct stemming from a January incident in Sunbury.
