SUNBURY - Three defendants were sentenced in Northumberland County Court Monday on various charges.
- Judge Charles Saylor placed Stanley M. Stanchick, 40, of Coal Township, on six months probation and ordered him to pay a $300 fine plus costs for driving under the influence of alcohol. Stanchick also must undergo counseling and complete DUI-related schooling. He is prohibited from attending bars.
Since it was Stanchick's first DUI offense and the incident didn't involve an accident, the defendant will not have his driver's license suspended.
He was charged by Shamokin police in connection with a March 18 incident at Race and Shamokin streets.
Additional charges of careless driving and squealing tires were not prosecuted.
- Maria Bridy, 29, of Mount Carmel, was ordered by President Judge William H. Wiest to complete 23 months intermediate punishment with the first six months on house arrest for acquiring a controlled substance (Adderall) by forgery. She also must pay a $200 fine plus costs.
The charge was filed by Mount Carmel police in connection with a Sept. 2 incident.
An additional charge of forgery was not prosecuted.
- Laborah Evans, 27, of Philadelphia, was sentenced by Saylor to 69 days previously served in prison and fined $50 for possessing with intent to deliver marijuana relating to a March 21 incident at SCI-Coal Township.
Evans, who was granted immediate parole, has been incarcerated at SCI-Muncy since her arrest. An additional charge of contraband was not prosecuted.
She was charged by state police at Stonington with twice entering a rest room and placing balloons stuffed with contraband inside her mouth before kissing Michael Dingle, 25, an inmate at SCI-Coal Township.
Nine balloons were passed in all. They were discovered after Dingle passed them while defecating. Seven balloons were each filled with one gram of marijuana, police said. Thumb drives uploaded with pictures, porn videos and music were in the other two balloons.
Dingle was sentenced on similar charges last week by Wiest to two to four years in state prison and fined $500. The sentence is concurrent to the 26 to 52 years he's currently serving for crimes in Philadelphia County.
