Hit and run

COAL TOWNSHIP - Michael Tetkoskie, of 1238 W. Montgomery St., Coal Township, reported the passenger side quarter panel and bumper area of his 2000 Mercury were damaged in a hit-and-run accident between 10:30 and 11 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot at the Anthra Plaza.

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run accident should call Coal Township police at 570-644-0333.

Route 61 crash

COAL TOWNSHIP - John Hovenstine, 42, of Coal Township, suffered minor injuries in a two-car accident Friday night on Route 61 near Pizza Hut.

Coal Township Patrolman Terry Ketchem said Hovenstine was driving a Volkswagen Jetta north at 7:27 p.m. at the intersection with Pizza Hut when his car was struck from behind by a Pontiac Sunfire operated by Brendin Pancher, 16, of Kulpmont, who escaped injury.

Both cars were driven from the scene.

Assisting police were Coal Township firefighters and AREA Services Ambulance personnel.

Vehicles ransacked

COAL TOWNSHIP - Brenda Walburn, 54, of 1300 Pulaski Ave., Coal Township, told police someone ransacked her 2005 Subaru Impreza and 1994 Dodge Dakota truck parked along side her residence between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Police said nothing was taken from the unlocked vehicles.

Theft from car

COAL TOWNSHIP - Police are investigating the theft of various papers from the glove compartment of a 1995 Honda Civic owned by Jennifer Diaz, of 1723 E. Webster St., Coal Township, between 6:30 p.m. Saturday and 3 a.m. Sunday, when it was parked near her home.

Theft from car II

COAL TOWNSHIP - Elizabeth Chapman, 61, of West Nelson Street, Coal Township, told police someone stole cigarettes, money and soda from her vehicle between Sunday night and Monday morning. Chapman also reported a plastic container with a blue lid and a black and white notebook were removed from a Dodge Dakota truck owned by her husband, Michael Chapman, 61, while it was parked in the 1500 block of West Nelson Street. Chapman said papers and documents for the "Over 40" Shamokin Pool League were in the notebook and container.

Vehicle break-in

ZERBE TOWNSHIP - Police are investigating a series of vehicle break-ins which occurred between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

No victims were identified by police, but several vehicles had their interior compartments ransacked by an unknown person or persons while they were unlocked and parked on various streets in Trevorton.

A total of $100 in loose change was taken, along with $25 worth of CDs, and prescription anti-depressant medication.

Anyone with information on the thefts is asked to contact Zerbe Township Police at 570-797-4637. Township residents are reminded to lock their vehicles or homes and to take valuables out of their vehicles when they are parked and unattended.

DUI charges filed

COAL TOWNSHIP - Ariel Parker, 26, of 1504 W. Lynn St., was charged with three counts of driving under the influence following the investigation into a Sept. 24 motorcycle crash.

Parker was driving a 1996 Suzuki motorcycle east on State Street at 12:09 a.m. when it continued across the intersection of Jackson Street for no apparent reason and crashed into a wooden fence. He was flown from the scene to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, for treatment.

At the hospital, Coal Township Police Patrolman Joshua Wynn asked Parker to give a sample for chemical blood testing, but Parker refused. Wynn obtained a search warrant for Parker's medical record, which showed his blood alcohol level at the time was .296 percent and he tested positive results for amphetamines and benzodiazepines.

The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 25.

Firearms violation

MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP - Police charged Ronald J. Ramsdale, 32, of 2035 Walnut St., Ashland with a gun violation and drug charges following a traffic stop on Route 901, across from Patterson Block Oct. 27.

Mount Carmel Township Police patrolman Matthew Filarski reported in court documents he came across Ramsdale's vehicle parked on the berm with its lights on and the suspect sleeping in the front seat.

When Filarski asked him to exit his vehicle, Ramsdale told him he was carrying a firearm, a 9mm high point gun, on his left hip, with a round in the chamber. Ramsdale failed field sobriety tests and refused to take a chemical blood test. An inventory of the vehicle found plastic bags in the glove compartment with a substance inside later identified to be crack cocaine, along with a smoking pipe and other items.

Police charged Ramsdale with firearms not to be carried without a license, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, driving under the influence of a controlled substance or a combination of drugs and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arraigned Jan. 23 and committed to Northumberland County Prison on $25,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for today before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel.

Simple assault

COAL TOWNSHIP - Robert Pesarchick, 44, of 2102 W. Independence St., was charged with simple assault and reckless endangerment by police Patrolman Josh Wynn after Pesarchick allegedly pulled a gun and pointed it at his wife during a domestic dispute at 12:35 a.m. Tuesday.

Pesarchick was arraigned before on-call Magisterial District Judge Benjamin Apfelbaum, of Sunbury, and released on his own recognizance.

Disorderly conduct

KULPMONT - Borough Police Chief Michael Pitcavage charged Susan R. Boylan, 53, of 750 Chestnut St. with two counts of disorderly conduct and charges of scattering rubbish and harassment following a Jan. 20 incident at Boylan's residence.

Police were notified by several callers that Boylan was throwing glass and other items from her front porch onto Chestnut Street. When police arrived, Boylan was observed screaming at her neighbor and grabbing the person's arm. When police took Boylan into custody, she continued to yell obscenities and stated she threw the items to get the officer's attention because she could not find her phone.

A witness said she heard the items smashing near the area of Boylan's home, and observed Boylan throwing bottles and glass at a man standing in the street. When the witness told Boylan to stop, Boylan cursed at her and swung a glass planter at the man.

The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel, with a preliminary hearing set for Wednesday, Feb. 19.

Two injured in crash

ROCKEFELLER TOWNSHIP - A Coal Township woman was among the injured in a two-vehicle crash at 6:59 a.m. Monday on Route 890 at an intersection with Brush Valley Road.

State police at Stonington say a 2012 Subaru Legacy, driven by Loretta D. Snyder, 56, of Coal Township, was traveling north on Route 890 and was attempting to make a left turn onto Brush Valley Road, when it struck a 2012 Nissan Altima, driven by Nancy C. Harris, 48, of Bloomsburg, which was traveling south on Route 890.

Both drivers suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Geisinger hospitals, where they were treated and released.

Police said Snyder was cited for a turning violation, but other charges are pending further investigation. Assisting at the scene were members of Americus Hose Company Ambulance and East Sunbury Fire Department.

Runaway

SUNBURY - State police at Stonington reported Damon Magnuson, 15, of Sunbury, was reported as a runaway after leaving Shikellamy High School at 2:30 p.m. Monday.

Public drunkenness

SHAMOKIN - Robert W. Buettner, 23, of 711 E. Dewart St. was charged with disorderly conduct and cited for public drunkenness following a Jan. 15 incident in the area of Lombard and Shakespeare streets when he allegedly became aggressive toward police as they were conducting a welfare check.

Police were alerted that Buettner had mixed alcohol and pills and was carrying a knife. After being taken into custody, Buettner told police that he consumed a fifth of vodka and took a large quantity of prescription pills. The incident caused neighbors to be alarmed and the street was partially blocked off.

The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 25.

DUI

KULPMONT - Joseph R. Brodie, 34, of 1213 Chestnut St., was charged with three counts of driving under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving on roadways laned for traffic following an accident in the 100 block of Chestnut St. at 9:37 p.m. Oct. 10.

After obtaining a search warrant for his medical records, police found that he had a blood alcohol level of .249 percent at the time of the accident and that cannabinoids, a chemical found in marijuana, were in his system as well.

A search of his vehicle turned up three "roaches" containing a small amount of marijuana and a black smoking pipe.

The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel, by Kulpmont Police Chief Michael Pitcavage. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 12.

Tire falls from SUV

BURNSIDE - Trisha Yeager, 17, of Shamokin, escaped injury Tuesday night when the driver's side front tire of the 1998 Ford Explorer she was driving fell off while she was traveling along Route 125.

Patrolman Matthew Hashuga reported Yeager said she attempted to apply her brakes but they weren't functioning properly, causing her to steer off the road onto the berm.

Criminal trespass

NEW CASTLE TOWNSHIP - Jonathan James Kintzel, 31, of Pottsville, has been charged by state police at Frackville with possessing a firearm while being a convicted felon and criminal trespass relating to an incident between 9 and 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in a wooded area owned by Reading Anthracite of Pottsville near Darkwater Road.

Police said Kintzel and an unidentified male were found in a truck on the property by security personnel from Reading Anthracite. The men were burning plastic from copper pieces of wiring, police said, and Kintzel was in possession of a firearm.

Police reported Kintzel was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge David Plachko and committed to Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville in lieu of $15,000 bail.

Police said the other male has not been charged.

Coal stove taken

DORNSIFE - State police at Stonington are investigating the theft of a coal stove from the front porch of the residence of Chad Edward Keim, 42, of 454 Gobbler Run Road.

Police said the theft occurred between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Harassment

KULPMONT - Jamie Cousentino, 37, and John P. McGhee, 59, both of Kulpmont, were charged by state police at Stonington with harassment in connection with a disturbance at 562 Chestnut St., Apt. B., shortly after 3 a.m. Wednesday.

Police said Cousentino and McGhee became combative with each other during a verbal argument. Police said McGhee left the apartment prior to their arrival.

Truck hits pole

MOUNT CARMEL - Borough police were called to a report of a tractor-trailer hitting a utility pole at 9:10 a.m. Wednesday at Sixth and Orange streets.

No injuries or power outages were reported and the scene was cleared by 10 a.m.

Leg injury

SHAMOKIN - John Parker Jr., 36, of 11 S. Market St., Shamokin, has been identified by Shamokin police as the person injured in an accident Wednesday afternoon at Grant and Chestnut streets.

Chief of Police Edward Griffiths said Parker, who is employed by Fegley's Trash and Coal, had picked up a garbage bag when he slipped on the ice, causing him to fall underneath a garbage/coal truck and suffer a serious leg injury.

Parker was transported by AREA Services Ambulance to an area hospital for treatment, police said.

The incident occurred shortly after 12:30 p.m.

Theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Jason Davis, 38, of Sherman Street, told police someone entered his 2003 Chevy Cavalier between Jan. 22 and Wednesday and removed the inspection sticker from the windshield and the registration card from the glove compartment. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 570-644-0333.

Crash

PAXINOS - One person was injured Wednesday in a three-vehicle crash at the red light at Routes 487 and 61.

According to Trooper Daniel Wilk, state police at Stonington, Gary D. Reidt, 45, of Trevorton, was approaching the red light on southbound Route 487 in a 2001 Dodge Durango about 3:41 p.m. when he rear-ended a 2005 Ford Escape driven by Tonya M. Henninger, 29, of Shamokin.

The impact forced Henninger's vehicle into the rear of a 2001 Chevrolet 2500 driven by James E. Rafter, 58, of Bloomsburg.

Wilk said Rafter suffered an injury of unknown severity to his lower back and was taken by Elysburg Ambulance for treatment at Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital, Coal Township.

No other injuries were reported by either driver or by Henninger's passenger, an 8-year-old Shamokin girl.

All four were wearing seat belts.

Henninger's vehicle was disabled while the other two vehicles sustained minor damages, Wilk said.

Reidt was charged with driving with a suspended license and following too closely.

Harassment

DALMATIA - Kenneth Gonse, 45, of Dalmatia, will be cited by Cpl. Jerry Hughes, state police at Stonington, with harassment for allegedly shoving and striking Peter Courtelyou, 70, of Herndon, about 9:20 a.m. Wednesday.

Hughes said Courtelyou was attempting to serve eviction papers on Gonse at 1979 George St. when the incident occurred.

Rear-end collision

SNYDERTOWN - No injuries were reported in a rear-end crash Wednesday on Snydertown Road.

According to Trooper David Myers, state police at Stonington, Michael D. Barvitskie, 36, of Paxinos, was driving a 2005 Dodge Dakota east in the direction of Elysburg about 5:44 p.m. near Smith Road when he rear-ended a 2012 Kia Sorrento driven by Reynold J. Bainbridge, 58, of Danville.

Myers said Bainbridge had stopped his vehicle after a deer reportedly ran from the woods and jumped over the vehicle's hood.

The two drivers and a passenger of Bainbridge's, 58-year-old Rose M. Bainbridge, also of Danville, were wearing seat belts.

Charges are pending further investigation.

Drug-related charges

SNYDERTOWN - A 15-year-old male is facing charges after drug paraphernalia was allegedly found inside his bedroom at his Main Street home about 10 a.m. Jan. 21. Trooper Thomas C. Leib, state police at Stonington, is handling the investigation.

Failure to register

MOUNT CARMEL - Frederick C. Hess Jr., 40, of 31 N. Locust St., Mount Carmel, has been charged by Patrolman Jason Drumheller with failure to comply with registration requirements with state police under Megan's Law because he is a registered sex offender.

Police said the offense occurred Jan. 22.

Drunk driving

COAL TOWNSHIP - Michael Marciniak, 21, of 100 E. Market St., Trevorton, has been charged by Patrolman Chad Yoder with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Yoder said Marciniak was found about 7 a.m. Dec. 18 behind the wheel of his vehicle, slumped into the passenger seat, parked on the shoulder of Route 225.

Blood testing found his blood alcohol content to be 0.175 percent, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent.

MOUNT CARMEL - The following hearings took place Wednesday before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones. Defendants ordered to appear for plea court March 17 in Northumberland County Court, Sunbury, can plead guilty or no contest, or seek a trial by pleading not guilty.

- Joseph L. Aiello, 30, of 651 W. Fifth St., Mount Carmel, waived two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a suspended license and driving a vehicle without registration relating to a Nov. 27 traffic stop at Fifth and Maple streets.

The charges were filed by Mount Carmel Patrolman Shane Reamer.

- Ronald J. Ramsdale, 32, of 2035 Walnut St., Ashland, waived charges of possessing a firearm without a license, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, driving under the influence of a controlled substance or a combination of drugs and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

The charges filed by Mount Carmel Township Patrolman Matthew Filarski relate to an Oct. 27 traffic stop on Route 901 across from Patterson Block.

- Shannon B. McGinley, 18, of Hickory Street, Mount Carmel, waived charges of theft by extortion and criminal attempt to commit extortion.

She is charged by Mount Carmel Patrolman Justin Stelma with trying to extort $100 from Michael VanBourgondien in exchange for dropping charges against him.

Police said the incident began Sept. 11 when McGinley accused VanBourgondien of a crime and called police. Borough Police Chief Todd Owens said the incident is still under investigation.

- Joseph R. Brodie, 34, of 1213 Chestnut St., Kulpmont, waived three counts of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to drive in a single lane involving an Oct. 10 accident in the 100 block of Chestnut Street.

Kulpmont Police Chief Michael Pitcavage filed the charges.

Brodie also waived charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of marijuana, failure to drive in a single lane, a high-beam violation and a turning violation.

The charges were filed by Ralpho Township Patrolman Chris Grow in connection with an Aug. 31 traffic stop at the intersection of Route 54 and Quarry Road.

- Michael G. Cobin, 65, of 2351 Stetler Drive, Coal Township, waived two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and damage to unattended property involving a Dec. 7 accident at 293 Overlook Blvd. in which his vehicle struck trees several times and caused $1,524 damage to landscaped property.

The charges were filed by Ralpho Township Patrolman Chris Dailey.

- Nathan J. Reigle, 37, of 905 W. Willow St., Coal Township, waived charges of misbranding a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The charges were filed by Mount Carmel Township Officer Kelly Campbell in connection with a June 6 incident in the 100 block of Columbia Avenue in Atlas.

- Michael B. Laskowski Jr., 36, of 926 W. Walnut St., Coal Township, waived charges of burglary, theft, receiving stolen property and criminal trespass involving a Dec. 24 burglary at the home of Jonathan and Josephine Stroh, 333 E. Warsaw St., Marion Heights.

The charges were filed by Mount Carmel Township Patrolman Kelly Campbell.

Information sought on accident

COAL TOWNSHIP - Police are investigating a minor accident that occurred in the Walmart parking lot at 2 p.m. Friday.

According to police, someone struck a older model Pontiac Bonneville, green in color, and left the scene before police were contacted. The Bonneville would have minor damage to the rear driver's side quarter panel.

Anyone who has information about the vehicle that was hit is asked to contact police at 570-644-0333.

Retail theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Michelle McCrary, 29, of Shamokin, was charged by Patrolman Matthew Hashuga with retail theft for allegedly removing $547.66 worth of merchandise from Walmart without paying between Dec. 15 and Jan. 22.

Domestic dispute

COAL TOWNSHIP - Thomas Hawk, 49, of 1143 W. Fern St., Coal Township, is charged by Patrolman Joshua M. Wynn with simple assault and harassment related to a domestic dispute Saturday.

According to police, Hawk and his girlfriend, Melissa Twist, 40, were arguing inside a vehicle near Montgomery and Cedar streets when he allegedly pushed her out of the vehicle, causing injury to her left arm.

Hawk was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, Shamokin, and remanded to Northumberland County Prison, Sunbury, in lieu of $7,500 bail.

No injuries

SHAMOKIN DAM - No injuries were reported as a result of a two-vehicle crash at 10:05 a.m. Monday on Routes 11 and 15 near the entrance to McDonald's.

State police at Selinsgrove report a 2007 Subaru Outback, driven by Dezirae R. Dreese, 20, of Selinsgrove, hit the back of a 2004 Freightliner M2 truck, driven by Bryan P. Sokoloskie, 29, of Elysburg, that had stopped for traffic.

Neither driver was injured in the crash, and police cited Dreese for following too closely.

Disorderly conduct

SHAMOKIN - Leroy Lebo, 30, and Renee Austerberry, 27, both of 135 N. Marshall St., Shamokin, were cited by Cpl. Bryan Primerano for disorderly conduct.

Police said they were arguing about prescription medication at 5:55 a.m. Monday, and several items inside the home were smashed.

Parked car struck

COAL TOWNSHIP - No injuries were reported in a two-car crash at 1:40 p.m. Monday on Maple Street near Walnut Street.

Township police say Tina Schoeneberger, 48, of 1305 W. Walnut St., was traveling south on Maple Street in a 1995 GMC vehicle when it slid on the snow-covered hill and struck a parked 2009 Dodge Journey, owned by Tracy Leiby, of 1001 W. Walnut St.

Both vehicles sustained minor front end damage.

Vehicle slides off snowy road

UPPER AUGUSTA TOWNSHIP - A Northumberland driver was charged with a speeding violation when the car she was driving slid off the road and struck two objects on Mile Post Road, according to state police at Stonington.

Trooper Todd Leiby said Andrea M. Carman, 18, was traveling in a 2000 Subaru Outback west on Route 4004 when she lost control of the vehicle due to snowy and slush-covered roadways.

The vehicle exited the highway and struck a PennDOT traffic sign and a Verizon utility pole, knocking it over, before coming to final rest, police said.

Carman was wearing her seatbelt, and she was not injured, police said.

GPS stolen

TREVORTON - State police at Stonington reported someone removed a Tom-Tom GPS, hunting knife, binoculars and loose change from a vehicle owned by Delmar Thomas Foulds, 64, of 140 E. Market St., Trevorton, between Saturday and Monday near his home.

Anyone with information about the theft is urged to call state police at 570-286-5601.

Two-vehicle crash

SHAMOKIN TOWNSHIP - No injuries were reported in a two-vehicle accident Tuesday morning at the intersection of Route 61 and Old Reading Road.

State police at Stonington said Virginia B. Hertzog, 76, of Paxinos, was driving a 2007 school bus at 7:21 a.m. when she attempted to make a right turn from Old Reading Road onto Route 61 and struck the passenger side rear quarter panel of a 2003 Ford Focus driven north on Route 61 by Kayla M. Gordon, 17, of Sunbury.

Both drivers and Gordon's passenger, Tiffany L. Gordon, 14, of Sunbury, escaped injury.

An investigation is continuing.

Forgery

COAL TOWNSHIP - Shane Hart, 25, of Dewart Street, Shamokin, was charged by Patrolman Joshua Wynn with forgery, criminal use of a communication facility and theft by deception.

Police said Hart paid for pizza from Dominos Pizza in Coal Township with a counterfeit $50 bill Jan. 13.

On Jan. 31, Hart turned himself in to the office of Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, where he was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.

Police warned businesses and the public to be aware of counterfeit money circulating in the area. Anyone receiving counterfeit money should contact their local police department.

Underage drinking

EAST CAMERON TOWNSHIP - Two 15-year-old females and two 16-year-old females from Shamokin were cited by state police at Stonington for underage drinking relating to an incident Friday on Foura Road.

Police said the teens were found to have consumed alcohol between 5:30 and 8:30 p.m.

SUV hits pole

UPPER AUGUSTA TOWNSHIP - State police at Stonington reported Andrea M. Carman, 18, of Northumberland, was injured Monday afternoon when her 2000 Subaru Outback crashed into a PennDOT traffic sign and sheared off a utility pole off Snydertown Road.

Police said Carman lost control of the car on the snow-covered road at 3:30 p.m. She was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.

Police said they did not know the severity of Carman's injury.

Weather related

SUNBURY - No injuries were reported in a weather-related accident Monday morning along Route 147 just south of the city.

According to state police at Stonington, Dara Michelle Scheidler, 36, of 140 Water St., Dalmatia, was driving south at 6:15 a.m. when she lost control of her white Ford Focus that struck a concrete barrier on the northbound shoulder before continuing south in the northbound lane and hitting a green Dodge Durango operated by Gary Lynn Ernest, 50, of 580 Mile Run Road, Sunbury.

Police said charges are pending against Scheidler.

Truck hit sign

SHAMOKIN TOWNSHIP - Emma J. Ferster, 55, of Sunbury, escaped injury Monday morning when she lost control of her 2003 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck on snow-covered Captain Bloom Road and struck a street sign and utility pole.

State police at Stonington reported the accident occurred at 9:07 a.m. near Plum Creek Road.

Ferster's car was towed from the scene by Paul's Towing.

Charges are pending against Ferster, police said.

Down embankment

WEST CAMERON TOWNSHIP - A 1993 Mercury Villager operated by John Parker, 63, sustained moderate damage Monday morning along Route 2044 near Blacks Lane when it exited the eastbound lane and descended a small embankment.

State police at Stonington said the accident occurred at approximately 8 a.m.

Police did not list an address for Parker.

Jeep hits pole

JACKSON TOWNSHIP - Lori Stiely, of Red Cross Road, Dornsife, suffered a moderate injury at 9 a.m. Monday when the 2001 Jeep Cherokee in which she was traveling south on Route 225 near Route 147 slid on the snow-covered highway and struck a telephone pole.

The Jeep Cherokee sustained moderate damage.

Drug charge

SHAMOKIN TOWNSHIP - Zachary David Zablosky, 29, of Shamokin, has been charged by Trooper Daniel Wilk of state police at Stonington with possession of drug paraphernalia relating to a non-reportable accident shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday on Route 61 south of Durdach's.

Police said a glass marijuana smoking device was found on Zablosky.

Car hits guide rail

RUSH TOWNSHIP - State police at Stonington reported Kenneth Lewis, 31, of Danville, escaped injury Monday morning when his 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt struck guide rail on the south berm of Route 54 near Kaboodle Road.

Lewis' car sustained disabling damage in the 10:28 a.m. accident.

DUI

SHAMOKIN TOWNSHIP - Sheldon A. Derck, 49, of 133 Academy St., Shamokin, was arrested by state police at Stonington for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance relating to a non-reportable accident at 9:19 p.m. Monday on Route 61 south of Route 487.

One-car crash

JORDAN TOWNSHIP - Nicole M. Barry, 23, of Elizabethville, suffered a head injury in a one-car crash Sunday morning along Klingerstown Road and was transported by Life Team personnel to a Harrisburg area hospital.

State police at Stonington reported Barry was a passenger in a 2004 Kia Optima operated by Adam L. Caster II, 18, of Klingerstown. Caster and another passenger, Steven J. Bolig, 22, of Dalmatia, escaped injury.

Police said Caster was traveling west at 2:47 a.m. when his car traveled across both lanes of the road and struck an embankment on the south side of the road. After initial impact, the auto continued traveling along the embankment and hit a tree before traveling back across the highway and entering a field before stopping.

The car sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene.

Caster was cited for failing to keep his car on the road. He and Barry also were cited for failing to wear a seat belt.

Vandalism

TREVORTON - Police here reported someone broke into a soda machine at the Zerbe Township Rod & Gun Club on Sportsman Road between Jan. 25 and 27.

It is unknown if any money was removed from the machine, which sustained moderate damage.

Warning issued

ZERBE TOWNSHIP - Zerbe Township Police Chief Robert John warned residents to lock their vehicles and homes and remove any valuables from their vehicles when they are parked and unattended.

COAL TOWNSHIP - George Atiyeh, of Allentown, a landlord for several local properties, was cited twice Jan. 31 by Code Enforcement Officer Chris Petrovich for failing to report the occupancy status for properties he owns at 1046 W. Arch St. and 1050 W. Arch St.

Knife possession

COAL TOWNSHIP - A 10-year-old male at Shamokin Area Elementary School will be charged with possession of a weapon on school property after being found with a knife during a Jan. 30 incident at the school.

Coal Township Police reported the charges will be filed through Northumberland County Juvenile Services.

Injured in crash

JACKSON TOWNSHIP - A Dornsife woman was transported for treatment following a one-vehicle crash at 8:55 a.m. Monday along Route 225 near State Route 3012.

State police at Stonington say Lori B. Stiely, 54, of Dornsife, was traveling south on Route 225 when her 2001 Jeep Cherokee exited the left side of the snow-covered roadway and struck an PPL utility pole.

Stiely suffered moderate injuries in the crash and was transported to Sunbury Community Hospital for treatment.

Vehicle strikes guardrail

COAL TOWNSHIP - No one was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday on Route 61 in the area of the Brewery Curve.

Coal Township Police report a 2004 Oldsmobile, driven by M. Ramona Seger, of 1742 W. Chestnut St., was traveling north on Route 61 when her vehicle began to slide. The Oldsmobile slid across the roadway and struck a traffic control device on the median.

Seger's vehicle then crossed the southbound lanes and onto the berm, where it struck a guardrail, then continued on the berm and struck a bridge.

Mailboxes hit

ROCKEFELLER TOWNSHIP - State police at Stonington report that at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, an unknown vehicle was traveling on Airport Road and struck mailboxes at 182 and 183 Tillman Lane, removing both mailboxes from the ground, and then fleeing the scene. The incident is still under investigation.

LCB violation

ALLENTOWN - Jack's Spot Inc., owners of Jack's Spot, at the intersection of Route 125 and Franklin Square Road, Pitman, was cited for a Dec. 4 incident by the Allentown district office of the Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement.

According to officers, the establishment allegedly sold, furnished and/or gave such sale, furnishing or giving of alcoholic beverages to a 18-year-old male.

The charges will be brought before an administrative law judge who has the authority to impose penalties ranging from $50 to $1,000 for minor offenses and up to $5,000 for more serious offenses.

SHAMOKIN - The following hearings took place Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III. Defendants ordered to appear for plea court March 24 in Northumberland County Court, Sunbury, can plead guilty or no contest, or seek a trial by pleading not guilty.

- Calvin Derck III, 38, of 44 S. Sixth St., Shamokin, waived to court a charge of altering the date on a prescription involving an Aug. 8 incident at Tom Olcese Pharmacy. Shamokin Patrolman Scott Weaver filed the charge.

Derck also waived to court a criminal trespass charge filed by Shamokin Patrolman Shane Mowery in connection with a June 27 break-in at 508 Bear Valley Ave.

- Khadijah Kadine Smith, 21, of Reading, pleaded guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia and was ordered to pay a $300 fine plus costs and placed on supervised probation for one year. An additional charge of possession of a small amount of marijuana was withdrawn.

Smith was charged by Trooper Todd Leiby of state police at Stonington in connection with a Sept. 8 incident in the parking lot at SCI-Coal Township.

- Darryl L. Kashner, 28, of Coal Township, who is an inmate at Northumberland County Prison, was held for court on two counts each of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and criminal conspiracy.

The charges were filed by Shamokin Cpl. Bryan Primerano and Agent David Jordan from the state Attorney General's Office.

Kashner was one of several men named in a grand jury indictment as a drug supplier to several dealers.

According to court documents, Kashner was working with drug distribution ring leader Juan Alvarez, of the Dominican Republic, who is currently incarcerated in a federal prison in Lackawanna County, to bring narcotics from the Hazleton area into Northumberland County from 2009 to 2012.

Among the documents was a statewide grand jury presentment in which Kashner testified he purchased cocaine and heroin from Alvarez or one of his associates more than 50 times.

Kashner said his average purchase was 20 to 30 grams of cocaine, six or seven grams of crack cocaine and up to a few bundles of heroin.

- Chanda Hine, 38, of 1446 Pulaski Ave., Coal Township, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and was ordered to pay a $200 fine plus costs and placed on supervised probation for one year. Additional charges of theft and receiving stolen property were withdrawn.

Hine was charged by Coal Township Patrolman David Sage with stealing two rings valued at $89.96 belonging to her neighbor, Joy Kulenguskey, of 1444 Pulaski Ave. Police said the theft occurred Dec. 3.

- Ronald Nahodil, 42, of 512 Bear Valley Ave., Shamokin, was held for court on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol involving a July 8 vehicle stop on Walnut Street near Sixth Street.

Shamokin Patrolman Raymond Siko II filed the charge.

- Gene Allen Hale, 41, of Plymouth, waived to court three counts of deceptively obtaining pain killers from multiple doctors to support his drug addiction or sell the pills for profit.

The charges were filed in July in connection with an investigation spearheaded by narcotics agent Duane Musser of the state Attorney General's Office and members of the Northumberland-Montour Drug Task Force involving "doctor shopping."

- Brooke Ogara, 27, of 141 Washington Drive, Kulpmont, waived to court a charge of driving under the influence of a controlled substance involving a Nov. 5 incident on Water Street near Sixth Street.

The charge was filed by Shamokin Patrolman Raymond Siko II.

- Jared Seedor, 30, of 1319 W. Willow St., Coal Township, waived to court two counts of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia relating to a Feb. 27 incident in the parking lot at Walmart along Route 61.

- Jonathan Bartholomew, 36, of 139 E. North St., Marion Heights, waived to court two counts of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, driving under suspension and possession of drug paraphernalia relating to the same incident.

All the charges were filed by Coal Township Patrolman Edward Purcell.

- Richard A. Armstrong, 32, of 125 E. Arch St., Shamokin, waived to court a retail theft charge.

He was charged by Coal Township Patrolman Edward Purcell with stealing baseball cards, an iPhone case, DVD player and other items valued at $135.42 from Walmart along Route 61 on Dec. 18.

- Krystal V. Seger, 26, of 46 N. Seventh St., Shamokin, waived to court charges of driving under the influence of drugs not medically prescribed, driving under the influence of drugs that made her incapable of safe driving, driving under the influence of a solvent or noxious substance and reckless driving in connection with a Sept. 25 accident in the first block of North Market Street.

The charges were filed by Shamokin Patrolman Raymond Siko II.

- James Alan Hile, 48, of 847 W. Walnut St., Coal Township, pleaded guilty to a retail theft charge and was ordered to pay a $100 fine plus costs. Charges of theft and receiving stolen property were withdrawn.

Shamokin Patrolman Raymond Siko II charged Hile with stealing a Fuji camera card valued at $50 belonging to Mark Gemberling from a photo-processing machine at CVS Pharmacy in downtown Shamokin Oct. 23.

Hit and run

RIVERSIDE - State police at Stonington reported charges are pending against Joshua Scott Kovaschetz, 34, of Mile Hill Road, Sunbury, in connection with a hit-and-run accident Friday morning at the intersection of Sunbury and Whiteknight roads.

Police said Kovaschetz and David John Winnie, 21, of Nescopeck, were both traveling west on Sunbury Road at 2:19 a.m. when Kovaschetz proceeded to accelerate and hit Winnie's vehicle from behind. Kovaschetz then lost control of his vehicle, which exited the south side of the road and hit a utility pole. Kovaschetz fled the scene prior to emergency personnel arriving.

Assault at academy

COAL TOWNSHIP - A 14-year-old male from York has been charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment relating to a disturbance at 3:35 p.m. Tuesday at Northwestern Academy.

The academy resident is accused of throwing a chair at staff member Aaron Deitz before hitting him in the face and head several times, causing Deitz to suffer cuts to his forehead and forearm.

The charges were filed through Northumberland County Juvenile Court.

Hit and run

COAL TOWNSHIP - Daniel Charowsky, 45, of 1500 Pulaski Ave., Coal Township, reported a vehicle struck his 2005 Ford Mustang between 2 and 4 p.m. Thursday on Sherman Street.

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run accident is urged to call Coal Township police at 570-644-0333.

SUV strikes residences

COAL TOWNSHIP - Two homes at 1780 and 1782 Tioga St. sustained minor damage to their front foundations and siding when a 2008 Ford Expedition crashed into them Thursday night.

Coal Township police reported Joann Rakus, 40, of 1050 1/2 W. Arch St., Coal Township, was operating the Expedition owned by Michael Noll, 43, of 1775 Tioga St., Coal Township. Police said Rakus pulled out from a parking spot on Tioga Street at about 6 p.m. when she lost control of the vehicle, which crossed over the street and struck the residences.

The Expedition then struck a 2010 Ford Focus owned by Angelic Christian and Joseph Wisgo, of 1780 Tioga St.

The Expedition and Ford Focus sustained moderate damage and were towed from the scene. Rakus escaped injury.

DUI

MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP - Daniel J. Renn Jr., 33, of 116 E. Melrose St., Marion Heights, was charged by Patrolman Kelly Campbell with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under suspension, a lighting violation and driving without a license involving a Nov. 6 incident on the Natalie Mountain (Route 54).

According to a criminal complaint filed at the office of Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, Renn refused to submit to chemical testing. Renn told police he had consumed several alcoholic beverages and used morphine and possibly some other substances on the night of the incident.

DUI offense

MOUNT CARMEL - Patrolman Justin Stelma charged Douglas J. Kraynak, 23, of 131 W. Clermont St., Marion Heights, with driving under the influence of alcohol and careless driving relating to a Dec. 20 incident in the first block of South Market Street.

Police said Kraynak had a blood-alcohol content of .219 percent.

Cell phone theft

MOUNT CARMEL - Patrick Tobin, 49, of 218 N. Third St., Minersville, was charged by Lt. Christopher Buhay with theft of lost or mislaid property.

Police said Tobin is accused of keeping a cell phone belonging to Robin Brown, of 46 N. Maple St., Mount Carmel, after Brown dropped the phone in Tobin's vehicle after being left off at her residence on Jan. 19. Brown told police she called Tobin numerous times in an attempt to regain her phone, but Tobin never returned her messages.

- Vincent Tyrone Martz, 25, of 125 S. Market St., Shamokin, pleaded guilty to a summary offense of harassment and was ordered to pay a $100 fine plus costs. A charge of simple assault was withdrawn.

Martz was charged by Shamokin Patrolman Raymond Siko II with striking his girlfriend, Jackie Rupert, in the face multiple times with a closed fist inside their residence.

- Kenneth Brownwell, 47, of 515 S. Market St., Shamokin, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and was ordered to pay a $50 fine plus costs and placed on supervised probation for one year. Charges of simple assault and stalking were withdrawn.

He was charged by Shamokin Cpl. Bryan Primerano with punching Willette Martz in the throat at 515 S. Market St. on Jan. 13.

- Thomas Weinstein Jr., 28, of Shamokin, waived to court a charge of failing to register with Pennsylvania State Police as a convicted sex offender.

Officers were tipped off that Weinstein was allegedly residing at 20 S. Franklin St. since Jan. 4. He was arrested Jan. 20 at that residence by Shamokin Cpl. Darwin Tobias III for failing to comply with registration requirements.

Weinstein is classified as being under community supervision for life as a condition of his parole in New Jersey, but he failed to register both in New Jersey and with Pennsylvania, according to a criminal complaint.

- Gregory J. Adams, 45, of 717 W. Chestnut St., Shamokin, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and was ordered to pay a $50 fine plus costs and placed on supervised probation for one year. Charges of loitering and prowling at night and public drunkenness were withdrawn.

Adams was charged by Shamokin Cpl. Bryan Primerano in connection with a Dec. 29 disturbance at 22 N. Market St.

Head-on crash

HAMILTON - No one was injured in a head-on crash Saturday night at Routes 61 and 890 in Upper Augusta Township, just outside of Sunbury.

Randall Stellmach, 51, of Sunbury, was driving a 2003 Toyota 4-Runner north on Route 61 about 8:25 p.m. He reportedly attempted a left turn onto Route 890 and drove into the southbound path of a 1997 Ford Explorer driven by Paul Mikulak, 33, of Sunbury, according to Trooper Wendy Keefer, state police at Stonington.

Mikulak and a passenger, Katrina Munson, of Shamokin, were wearing seat belts, as were Stellmach and his passenger, Joan Stellmach, of Sunbury.

Both vehicles sustained extensive front-end damage.

Criminal mischief

UPPER AUGUSTA TOWNSHIP - State police at Stonington reported a 30-year-old female from Mifflinburg came to the residence of Broc Robert Smith, 32, of 4951 State Route 890, at 4:30 a.m. Saturday and damaged his personal vehicle, a work vehicle and broke a rear window.

Police said charges are pending against the woman, who was not identified.

Retail theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Michael Hanko, 24, of Shamokin, and Marquese Seger, 20, of Coal Township, have been charged by Patrolman Matthew Hashuga with retail theft and criminal conspiracy to commit retail theft involving two incidents at Walmart.

Police reported Hanko and Seger allegedly removed $67.92 worth of merchandise Dec. 30 and $229.60 worth of merchandise Jan. 3.

Felony offenses

COAL TOWNSHIP - Nicholas Villarreal, 45, of Shamokin, was charged by Patrolman Matthew Hashuga with two felony counts of retail theft relating to two incidents at Walmart.

Police said Villarreal stole $916.92 worth of merchandise Jan. 19 and also removed items valued at $337.84 Jan. 20.

Retail theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Patrolman Matthew Hashuga charged Joshua Scandle, 34, of Shamokin, with retail theft involving a Jan. 20 incident at Walmart in which he allegedly stole $687.80 worth of merchandise.

Steals soda

KULPMONT - Mark Patrick Milo, 44, of North Sixth Street, Kulpmont, was charged by state police at Stonington with retail theft for removing seven bottles of Pepsi from Fuel On in the 600 block of Chestnut Street at 4:37 p.m. Sunday.

1 hurt in crash

MANDATA - A Dornsife man was injured Friday in a two-vehicle accident along Route 225 south of Mandata in Lower Mahanoy Township.

Earl C. Kahler, 86, was driving a 2001 Buick Lesabre south about 8 a.m. when Lisa M. Michael, 43, of Herndon, entered the highway in a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica and caused the collision, according to Trooper Brian Ronk, state police at Stonington.

Michael, Kahler and a passenger, Violet Kahler, 84, of Dornsife, were wearing seat belts. Neither of the women were injured, police said.

Earl Kahler's injuries were described by police as moderate.

Drug charges

SHAMOKIN - Cpl. Bryan Primerano has filed several drug charges against Eric Weikel, 28, of 828 N. Sixth St., Shamokin, in connection with two incidents last month at Weikel's home.

Weikel was charged with two counts each of delivery of marijuana and possession with intent to deliver marijuana involving incidents on Jan. 25 and Jan. 27 in which he sold marijuana to a confidential informant for $20.

Drug offenses

SHAMOKIN - Glenn Hart, 26, of 1001 E. Dewart St., Shamokin, was charged by Cpl. Bryan Primerano with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance.

Police said Hart possessed heroin wrappers and Alprazolam Jan. 29.

Fentanyl violation

SHAMOKIN - Cpl. Darwin Tobias III charged Kayla Marie Royer, 25, of 343 S. Diamond St., Shamokin, with possessing Fetanyl without a prescription at her residence Jan. 26.

Multiple charges

SHAMOKIN TOWNSHIP - Jeffrey S. Luta, 41, of 3413 State Route 61, Sunbury, was charged by Trooper James Yankovich of state police at Stonington with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving on the wrong side of the road, failure to drive in a single lane, a turn signal violation, careless driving and a seat belt violation involving a Nov. 11 traffic stop along Route 61 in the Stonington area.

Police said Luta had a blood-alcohol content of .158 percent.

Drug, alcohol offenses

SHAMOKIN TOWNSHIP - Trooper David Myers of state police at Stonington charged Eugene S. Warren, 50, of 16 S. Franklin St., Shamokin, with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, two counts of driving under the influence of a combination of drugs, possession of a small amount of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, depositing waste on a highway, failure to drive in a single lane and careless driving.

The charges relate to a Dec. 21 incident on Route 61 near Route 4005 in Shamokin Township.

Police reported Warren had a blood-alcohol content of .233 percent and had marijuana in his system.

Identity theft

ROCKEFELLER TOWNSHIP - Nancy L. Getgen, 74, of 1036 Captain Bloom Road, Sunbury, was a victim of identity theft Feb. 11, according to state police at Stonington.

Trooper Marc Yemzow said that someone used Getgen's name to apply for a vehicle loan without her permission.

Two-vehicle accident

SHAMOKIN TOWNSHIP - No injuries were reported after a two-vehicle accident at 6:25 p.m. Tuesday on Route 61 in Shamokin Township, according to state police at Stonington.

Trooper David Myers said Vickie T. Primerano, 59, of Coal Township, was traveling south in a 1996 Jeep Cherokee on Route 61 near Hollow Road when she slowed down at a stop sign.

Prior to coming to a complete stop, police said Nicole M. Mostik, 21, of Coal Township, who was driving behind her in a 2000 Ford Explorer, struck Primerano's rear bumper.

Both drivers were wearing their seat belts, police said.

n Shane Michael Wondoloski, 22, of 346 S. Poplar St., Mount Carmel, waived to court charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to use, disorderly conduct and harassment/stalking related to a Jan. 11 incident at the corner on Sixth and Grape streets, Mount Carmel.

Wondoloski is accused of pushing Byanna Dusendschine on the ground after she allegedly bit him on the face and punched him in the back.

When he was taken into custody, he allegedly tried to discard of two Oxycodone pills beneath the borough police cruiser, police said.

The charges were filed by Mount Carmel Patrolman William Adamski.

n Wade Jeffrey Smink, 38, last known address of 844 Chestnut St., Kulpmont, waived to court charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, failure to drive in a single lane, failing to have the proper restraint system for a child under the age of 4, driving while suspended and failure to notify the state of a change of address relating to an accident on Nov. 19.

Police said Smink hit a tree on Route 901 in Mount Carmel Township and then crawled into the passenger seat, reclined the chair, placed his feet on the dash and took a nap.

Smink tested positive for Lorazepam, Tramadol, O-Desmethyltramadol, Citalopram and caffeine, police said.

The charges were filed by Mount Carmel Township Patrolman David Stamets Jr.

n Jamie Lee Jurevicz, 34, of 444 W. Girard St., Atlas, waived to court charges of driving under the influence, failure to drive in a single lane, driving an unregistered vehicle and driving a vehicle without a certificate of inspection relating to a Jan. 18 accident on Route 61 in Atlas.

Jurevicz is accused of failing several sobriety tests and having a blood alcohol level of .091, police said.

The charges were filed by Mount Carmel Township Patrolman David Stamets Jr.

n Timothy L. Koch, 37, of 124 Vine St., Williamstown, waived to court charges of retail theft, operating a vehicle without required insurance, operating a vehicle without certificate of inspection and driving while under suspension relating to an Oct. 24 incident at Turkey Hill along Route 61 in Mount Carmel Township.

Koch is accused of leaving the gas pumps without paying for $55 worth of fuel he put in his car, police said.

The charges were filed by Mount Carmel Township Patrolman Daniel Politza.

n Jennifer Lauren Miller, 29, of 413 Clermont St., P.O. Box 340, Marion Heights, waived to court charges of two counts of driving under the influence and driving with a broken rear license plate light relating to a Jan. 26 incident on Route 61 in Atlas.

Miller is accused of failing several sobriety tests and having a blood alcohol level of .147, police said.

Stolen gas

SHAMOKIN - Douglas Lance Hatzel, 49, of 1206 Friedline Road, Danville, is charged by Patrolman Scott Weaver with retail theft and theft by deception for allegedly filling a vehicle with gasoline and driving off without paying on five different occasions at Turkey Hill Minit Market, 501 N. Second St.

The first incident reportedly occurred in June. On the fifth incident, alleged to have occurred Dec. 31, the license plate number on a 2011 Chevrolet was recorded and used by police to identify Hatzel. Clerks at the convenience store also identified Hatzel, police said.

Retail value of the stolen gasoline is $270.26.

Trash pile

SHAMOKIN - Brian K. Seebold, 52, of 813 N. Washington St., was cited by Cpl. Darwin Tobias III for violating the city's ordinance on sanitary conditions for allegedly allowing garbage to be dumped in a back yard at 506 N. Second St.

Tobias photographed the yard Monday and included it with the citation, and also remarked that Seebold had been cited for the same offense on Jan. 22 but the garbage had not been removed.

Retail thefts

Five area residents were cited by Coal Township and Shamokin police for retail theft in unrelated incidents.

Dorothy Brenneman, 32, of Ashland, is accused of stealing $408.85 in unspecified merchandise Jan. 16 from Walmart Supercenter, Route 61.

Edward L. Balch, 18, of Mount Carmel, is accused of stealing a coat Jan. 17 at Walmart. Police said Balch left the coat he had worn into the store on a rack, put on a brand new coat and walked to the courtesy desk. He returned that coat, valued at $54.48, without a receipt.

April Heckman, 28, of Shamokin, is accused of stealing a cell phone case valued at $29.88 from Walmart on Jan. 21.

Coal Township Patrolman Matthew Hashuga filed the citations in the incidents at Walmart.

Patrick K. Gearhart, 26, of 211 Third St., Ranshaw, is accused of stealing unspecified merchandise at 3:42 p.m. Jan. 8 from Dollar General, 30 E. Independence St.

Donna Marie Shaffer, 36, of 44 Adams St., is accused of concealing multiple packs of cigarettes before stealing them at 1:50 a.m. Dec. 25 at Turkey Hill Minit Market, 501 N. Second St.

Both incidents were recorded on surveillance cameras, according to Patrolman Scott Weaver, who filed the citations.

Loud noises

SHAMOKIN - Jesika McCann, 22, of 1008 N. Pearl St., was cited by Cpl. Bryan Primerano for disorderly conduct for allegedly shouting obscenities inside her home loud enough to be heard outdoors at 2:44 a.m. Sunday.

Vandalism

COAL TOWNSHIP - James Dangler, 34, of 931 W. Pine St., reported Tuesday that someone broke the rear window on his Chevy truck within the past two weeks by apparently shooting it with a BB gun.
