Three-vehicle crash

COAL TOWNSHIP - Township police are continuing their investigation into an accident just after midnight Sunday involving three vehicles and a utility pole in the 900 block of West Arch Street.

Patrolman Jason Adams reported Brian Drust, 34, of Coal Township, was driving a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee west when his vehicle struck a parked black Jeep Cherokee on the north side of the street. The impact caused the parked Jeep to strike a nearby utility pole and a red Geo Tracker parked in front of the black Jeep.

The pole was not damaged and the Tracker sustained moderate damage. The black Jeep and Drust's Jeep sustained extensive damage and were towed from the scene.

Drust was not injured.

Truck theft update

COAL TOWNSHIP - Harold John McGurl Jr., of Ashland, will be charged with theft-related offenses for allegedly stealing a black 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 cab crew from B&L Chevrolet-Buick on Route 61 Friday.

Police said McGurl was allowed to take the truck valued at $45,000 for a test drive between 4:45 and 5 p.m., but failed to return the vehicle to the dealership.

The truck was recovered by Pottsville police at 10 p.m. Friday and McGurl was taken into custody without incident. He was incarcerated in Schuylkill County Prison on a bench warrant issued Sept. 29 for failing to appear in Schuylkill County Court on charges of theft by unlawful taking and criminal mischief, according to court documents.

He had been released from prison Feb. 27 on $5,000 unsecured bail.

According to court documents, McGurl was also charged by police with violating a protection from abuse order for an Aug. 25 incident.

Citations

COAL TOWNSHIP - Coal Township Code Enforcement Officer Chris Petrovich cited James Hoffman, of 1040 W. Arch St., Coal Township, for having high brush, grass and weeds in a backyard at a property he owns at 1308 W. Independence St.

Petrovich also cited Nicole Hart, of 1546 Pulaski Ave., Coal Township, for allowing rubbish to accumulate at the back and side of her home and having a dead cat on her front porch.

The citations were issued Nov. 17.

Window shot

LYKENS - State police said a bullet was shot through an upstairs bedroom window and landed on the dresser of Edward Andrew Lasalle, 41, of 436 Henniger Road, Mifflin Township, sometime between Oct 31, 2012, and Oct. 31, 2014. Anyone with information is asked to contact state police in Lykens at 717-362-8700.

Hit and run

COAL TOWNSHIP - Kevin Iwanski, 47, of 1105 E. Webster St., Coal Township, told police a vehicle struck his 2010 Dodge Caravan while it was parked near his residence at 7 p.m. Monday. The driver then fled the scene.

Iwanski's vehicle sustained minor damage to its passenger side front fender, wheel and tire.

Terroristic threats

COAL TOWNSHIP - Justin Nahodil, 24, of 706 Lombard St., Shamokin, has been charged by Patrolman Chris Lapotsky with terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment involving a disturbance at 12:04 a.m. Friday at 1820 Maple Ave.

Police reported Nahodil allegedly threatened Daniel Calabro, 41, of 1820 Maple Ave., with a knife. Police said Calabro was able to take the knife away from Nahodil.

Nahodil was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III and released on $5,000 bail.

DUI

SHAMOKIN - Leon J. Phillips, 43, of 1404 Hemlock St., Coal Township, was charged by Patrolman Raymond Siko II with driving under the influence of alcohol, careless driving and failing to wear a seat belt involving a Nov. 15 traffic stop in the 100 block of West Lincoln Street.

Police reported Phillips, who was observed driving recklessly, refused to submit to a blood test. He also is accused of using obscene language toward police while claiming he did nothing wrong.

Stalking

SHAMOKIN - Charges of stalking, disorderly conduct and harassment were filed by Patrolman Raymond Siko II against Mark E. Shurgalla, 43, of 268 S. Lily Road, Paxinos.

Police reported Shurgalla allegedly followed Zoey Parker in September and Oct. 24 while she was walking on a city street and operating a vehicle.

Multiple charges

SHAMOKIN - Patrolman Raymond Siko II has charged Joshua T. Hill, 27, of 328 E. North St., Marion Heights, with driving under the influence of Xanax, unauthorized transfer or use of registration, careless driving, hit and run and driving without insurance.

The charges relate to an Oct. 27 accident at Grant and Birch streets.

DUI

COAL TOWNSHIP - Patrolman Edward Purcell has charged Brendon R. Connell, 31, of 624 E. Commerce St., Shamokin, with two counts of driving under the influence of a controlled substance involving a Sept. 20 sobriety checkpoint on Route 61 at Luke Fidler.

Police reported Connell was under the influence of Diazepam, Nordiazepam, Clonazepam and morphine-free.

Drug charges

SHAMOKIN - Rex Allen Hepner Sr., 66, of 19 E. Independence St., Shamokin, was charged by Trooper David Burns of state police at Stonington with possession with intent to deliver heroin, possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia involving a Sept. 18 incident at his residence.

In addition to 13 bags of heroin, police found a spoon and a black case containing drug paraphernalia including a glass smoking device, four empty bags of heroin and $259 in cash.

DUI offenses

STONINGTON - Jyl Marie Pekera, 29, of Mount Carmel, was charged by Trooper Samuel Edwards of state police at Stonington with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving on the wrong side of the road, failure to drive in a single lane, driving at an unsafe speed, careless driving and failing to wear a seat belt in connection with a May 12 accident along Route 4012 in Snydertown.

Police said Pekera had a blood-alcohol content of .221 percent.

DUI offenses

STONINGTON - Bryant David Tomcavage, 21, of 307 Center St., Tharptown, was charged by Trooper David Myers of state police at Stonington with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving on the wrong side of the road, failure to drive in a single lane, driving on divided highways, driving at an unsafe speed, careless driving and failure to wear a seat belt.

The charges relate to an Oct. 12 accident on Route 61 near Reading Turnpike Road in Shamokin Township.

Police said Tomcavage had a blood-alcohol content of .171 percent.

DUI

COAL TOWNSHIP - Brian Drust, 30, of Coal Township, was charged by Patrolman Jason Adams with driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with a Nov. 23 accident in the 900 block of West Arch Street.

Police said Drust had a blood-alcohol content of .30 percent.

Terroristic threats

COAL TOWNSHIP - Jason McGinn, 35, of 1000 W. Mulberry St., Coal Township, has been charged by Cpl. Joshua Wynn with assaulting his wife, Bernadette Christman, 39, at 10:35 p.m. Thursday at their home.

Police said McGinn allegedly slapped his wife, grabbed her by the throat and shoved her, causing a wrist injury. He also is accused of threatening to kill her.

McGinn was taken into custody and placed in a holding cell at Northumberland County Prison, Sunbury. He was arraigned at 10:30 a.m. Friday by on-call Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III on charges of terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment and committed to prison in lieu of $10,000 cash bail.

Disorderly conduct

SHAMOKIN - Stephen A. Thompson, 24, of 173 E. Dewart St., Shamokin, was cited by Patrolman Nathan Rhodes for disorderly conduct involving a fight at Tiffany's Lounge, 58 E. Independence St., at 12:43 a.m. Nov. 20.

Police reported Thompson knocked over bar stools and threw one of them over the bar.

Curfew violations

SHAMOKIN - Patrolman Scott Weaver cited a 16-year-old Shamokin male and a 12-year-old city boy for a curfew violation relating to an incident at 1:36 a.m. Sunday at Wendy's in downtown Shamokin.

Criminal mischief

COAL TOWNSHIP - Police here reported someone broke off a door handle on the passenger side of a 1999 Toyota Avalon between 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and 4 a.m. Thursday in the 800 block of West Walnut Street.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call Coal Township police at 570-644-0333.

Aggravated assault

LYKENS - Harold Zulauf, 26, of Herndon, has been charged with aggravated assault for allegedly attempting to assault a state police trooper at the Lykens barracks at 10:55 p.m. Saturday.

Police said Zulauf resisted arrest and engaged in a physical altercation with the trooper, who was not identified by police. The trooper escaped injury.

Zulauf was taken into custody and transported to Dauphin County Judicial Center.

Theft charges

MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP - Patrolman Brian Carnuccio has charged Matthew C. Santangelo, 58, of 315 W. Saylor St., Atlas, with theft and receiving stolen property.

According to police, Santangelo stole a $150 battery charger and a 50-foot air hose valued at $100 from a property along Route 61 in Atlas owned by Henry "Rick" Catino.

Santangelo was arraigned Friday morning by on-call Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III and committed to Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury in lieu of $5,000 cash bail.

Simple assault

MILTON - Dustin Heddings, 23, of Watsontown, was arraigned Friday morning by on-call Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III on charges of simple assault and harassment involving a disturbance on Broadway Street Thanksgiving.

Police said Heddings is accused of striking Amanda Brooking in the face, causing a bloody nose. Police said the disturbance occurred at 8:18 p.m.

Heddings was committed to Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury in lieu of $5,000 cash bail.

Resists arrest

COAL TOWNSHIP - Kevin S. Carsto, 21, of 1116 Chemung St., was jailed early Tuesday morning for allegedly possessing a small amount of marijuana and resisting arrest.

Coal Township police say Carsto refused officers' commands as they attempted to take him into custody. Carsto and a female not charged in the incident were discovered sleeping inside a vehicle shortly before 2 a.m. to the rear of the Bunker Hill Sports Complex. A small amount of marijuana and a piece of tin foil rolled into a smoking pipe were found inside the vehicle, police say.

Carsto is charged by Patrolman Terry Ketchem with drug possession, paraphernalia possession and resisting arrest. He was arraigned later Tuesday morning by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, Shamokin, and released from Northumberland County Prison, Sunbury, on $5,000 unsecured bail. Patrolman David Sage assisted at the scene.

Carsto resigned in September from the county prison, where he worked as a corrections officer. In seeking release on unsecured bail, he told the judge that he had recently taken the state civil service test and that he was applying for work at a state penitentiary.

Crash

PAXINOS - Roni J. LaRose, 39, of Ranshaw, was identified Tuesday by state police at Stonington as the motorist who sustained major injuries in a crash Monday on Route 61 north of Route 487.

LaRose was listed in serious condition Tuesday at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, according to a hospital spokesman.

Police say LaRose was driving a 2013 Toyota Venza south about 4:45 p.m. when she struck the rear of a southbound 2012 Ford Escape driven by Judith A. Marose, 65, of Coal Township.

Both vehicles spun across the northbound lane, off the roadway and into an embankment, causing LaRose's vehicle to roll onto its roof.

Both LaRose and Marose were wearing seat belts, police say, as was a passenger in Marose's vehicle: 66-year-old Sharon A. Stamm of Shamokin. Neither Marose nor Stamm were injured, police said.

Condition update

DANVILLE - Conner Wheary, 6, injured in a rollover crash Nov. 26 near Dalmatia, was listed in fair condition Tuesday at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, according to a hospital spokesman.

His brother, 5-year-old Landen Seidel, has since been discharged from the hospital, the spokesman said.

The boys were hospitalized following a rollover crash along Route 225 that killed their mother, Rachael (Geise) Seidel, 26, of Coal Township. Wheary had been admitted in critical condition, and his brother in fair condition.

DUI

ELYSBURG - Raymond Allen Smith, 56, of Reichwein Road, Lavelle, is charged with three counts of driving under the influence following a May 17 traffic stop along Route 54 near Sheetz convenience store.

According to a criminal complaint, Smith's blood alcohol level was 0.205 percent, exceeding the legal limit of 0.08 percent, and that he also had hydrocodone in his system.

Ralpho Township Patrolman Chris Dailey says Smith was stopped after the rollback truck he was driving crossed both the center line and the fog line. Smith allegedly displayed physical signs of intoxication.

He was also cited for violating the traffic law "roadways laned for traffic."

The charges were filed Nov. 25 at the office of Magisterial District Judge Hugh A. Jones, Mount Carmel.

Meth in wallet

ATLAS - David R. Disciullo, 28, of 218 E. Columbia Ave., is charged with possessing methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Mount Carmel Patrolman Matthew Filarski said Disciullo possessed the drug on July 6 inside a glassine packet found in his wallet that was left behind at the township station after the Atlas man had already been transported to Northumberland County Prison, Sunbury, for a separate incident.

The charges were filed Nov. 25 at the office of Magisterial District Judge Hugh A. Jones, Mount Carmel.

Stolen TV

MOUNT CARMEL - Anthony M. Zamboni, 27, of Shamokin, is charged by borough Patrolman Jason Drumheller with theft and receiving stolen property. Zamboni is accused of stealing a $500 flat-screen television on June 22 from Tiffany Kemfort, of 216 W. Second St. The charges were filed Nov. 25 at the office of Magisterial District Judge Hugh A. Jones, Mount Carmel.

Bad checks

MOUNT CARMEL - Ashley Marie Knopp, 25, of 118 S. Orange St., is charged by Patrolman Justin Stelma with access device fraud, two counts of theft, receiving stolen property and bad checks. Knopp is accused of depositing $1,180 in bogus checks between Sept. 8 and 10 and fraudulently withdrawing the cash or spending it as a point of sale transaction. The charges were filed Nov. 25 at the office of Magisterial District Judge Hugh A. Jones, Mount Carmel.

Car hits embankment

COAL TOWNSHIP - Tyler Lenig, 27, of Shamokin, escaped injury late Monday night in a one-car crash on Route 125 near Point Breeze Road.

Patrolman Terry Ketchem reported Lenig was driving a silver, 2000 Volkswagen Jetta south at 11 p.m. when his auto struck an embankment, causing the vehicle to overturn and come to rest in the middle of the southbound lane.

The auto sustained heavy damage and was towed from the scene by Jeff's Towing.

Assisting Ketchem were Coal Township Patrolman David Sage, township fire chiefs and firefighters.

The accident remains under investigation.

Simple assault

COAL TOWNSHIP - Gloria Saladonis, 43, of 517 Main St., Ranshaw, was charged by Patrolman Chris Lapotsky with simple assault and harassment involving an Oct. 17 incident at Mountain View: A Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Overlook Ridge, Apt. 8.

Police reported Saladonis hit resident Lottie Haude, 97, several times, yelled at her and called her an obscenity. Haude was not injured in the 7:15 a.m. disturbance.

Public nuisance

SHAMOKIN - Cpl. Bryan Primerano has charged Miguel A. Gonzalez, 36, of Brooklyn, N.Y., with causing a public nuisance by continually allowing a property he owns at 415 S. Market St. to be in danger of collapse.

According to a criminal complaint filed at the office of Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, shingles and other roof materials are falling from the building and the roof and exterior walls are deteriorating. There is broken glass at the building and the rear porch is unsecured and dangerous to walk on. The chimney and wooden eaves are damaged and eaves are falling from the structure.

Harassment

JORDAN TOWNSHIP - Charges of harassment and criminal mischief have been filed by state police at Lykens against Mark Eugene Yerger Jr., 29, of Herndon.

Police reported Yerger threw a rock at a vehicle occupied by a 29-year-old Lykens woman as she attempted to leave the 2500 block of Klingerstown Road at noon Nov. 5. The rock struck the vehicle, causing damage to a side window.

The victim, who was not identified by police, then drove to the state police station at Lykens and reported the incident.

Bad check

MOUNT CARMEL - Jane E. Madrak, 56, of 945 W. Pine St., Coal Township, was arraigned Wednesday afternoon by Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones on a bad check charge.

Madrak is charged by Patrolman Justin Stelma with issuing a bad check in the amount of $380 to Expert Charm Furniture owned by Albert Corbacio on March 21.

DUI

SHAMOKIN - Justin Brosious, 22, of 123 S. Third St., Room 9, Sunbury, has been charged by Cpl. Jarrod Scandle with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, stopping and parking his vehicle near Bear Valley Avenue and Market Street while falling asleep and careless driving.

The charges relate to an incident shortly after 2 a.m. Nov. 2.

Police said Brosious had a blood-alcohol content of .106 percent.

Retail theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Matthew J. Furr, 35, of 102 N. Vine St., Shamokin, was charged by Patrolman Edward Purcell with a felony of retail theft and summary of driving under suspension involving incidents at Walmart Supercenter Nov. 23.

Furr, who fled from the store after stealing a $40 video game, was subsequently taken into custody by Coal Township and Shamokin police after being stopped while operating a 2002 Subaru at the jughandle along Route 61 across from the former Ames Department Store.

Police said Furr was previously charged with retail theft, which elevated the offense to a felony.

Disorderly conduct

SHAMOKIN - Steven L. Rivera, 23, of Grove City, was charged by Cpl. Jarrod Scandle with disorderly conduct and criminal mischief relating to a Nov. 1 incident at 100 S. Market St.

According to a criminal complaint filed at the office of Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, Rivera is accused of kicking a glass entry door, causing the glass to shatter. Police said damage to the door was estimated at $300.

Fleeing charge

SHAMOKIN - Patrolman Raymond Siko II has charged Dillon K. Kleman, 19, of 1225 Chemung St., Coal Township, with fleeing or eluding police, driving under suspension, driving an unregistered vehicle, a stop sign violation, careless driving and failure to wear protective equipment while operating a motorcycle involving a 10-block pursuit in the city Nov. 23.

Police said Kleman, who was not wearing a helmet, fled from police after failing to stop for a stop sign at Shamokin and Shakespeare streets. The pursuit continued as Kleman failed to stop for stop signs at three more intersections before Siko terminated the chase at Shamokin and Pine streets when it began to rain.

Kleman was later located and taken into custody.

DUI charges

COAL TOWNSHIP - Christopher A. Charowsky, 21, of 1500 Pulaski Ave., Coal Township, has been charged by Patrolman Christopher Williams with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving and careless driving in connection with a Feb. 28 accident on Route 61 at Tharptown.

Police reported Charowsky, who had a blood-alcohol content of .226 percent, was critically injured after being ejected from his vehicle that hit a snow bank and overturned.

Drug paraphernalia

SHAMOKIN - Cody Hlavaty, 20, of 227 W. Willow St., Shamokin, was charged by Patrolman Raymond Siko II with possession of drug paraphernalia involving a Nov. 24 incident at Shamokin Police Station.

When he was taken into custody by a Northumberland County probation officer, Hlavaty was found in possession of a syringe used to inject a controlled substance and admitted to probation officers that he recently used narcotics.

Retail theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Patrolman Matthew Hashuga has charged two people with retail theft involving separate incidents at Walmart Supercenter.

Samuel Dascani, 32, of Kulpmont, was charged with stealing $228.42 worth of merchandise Sept. 14.

Kelly Whitmer, 30, of Shamokin, was charged with stealing $305.11 worth of merchandise Sept. 7.

Two-vehicle crash

MONROE TOWNSHIP - No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash on Roosevelt Avenue, near the entrance to Weis Markets at 4:50 p.m. Saturday.

State police at Selinsgrove say a 2007 Toyota Yaris, driven by Cecelia A. Sosnoskie, 27, of Paxinos, was traveling south on Roosevelt Avenue approaching the intersection with the entrance to Weis Markets, while a 2007 Jeep Wrangler, driven by Tracey M. Witmer, 49, of Paxinos, was traveling north on Roosevelt Avenue and attempting to turn left into the supermarket's parking lot. According to police, the Wrangler struck the Yaris.

No one was injured in the crash but Witmer's vehicle had to be towed from the scene.

Decorations stolen

COAL TOWNSHIP - Police are investigating the theft of Christmas decorations from a Ranshaw home between Friday night and Saturday morning.

A large animated drummer boy and toy soldier were found near Race and Hunter streets at 1:32 a.m. Saturday. The decorations were part of a display at the home of James Madden, 132 Main St., Ranshaw. The decorations, valued at $800, sustained extensive damage, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 570-644-0333.

Harassment

COAL TOWNSHIP - Jennifer Conover, 34, of 331 S. Rock St., Shamokin, was cited for harassment by Coal Township Patrolman Chris Lapotsky related to a confrontation inside Walmart at 2 p.m. Dec. 1.

Conover is accused of confronting Jasmine Deitz, 18, of Clair Street, Elysburg, inside the store and punching her in the face. Deitz was not injured.

Retail theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Amir Roach, 28, and Ashley Groff, 24, both of Shamokin, were charged with misdemeanor retail theft and criminal conspiracy to commit retail theft from Walmart Supercenter, Route 61.

Roach and Groff are accused of making fraudulent returns on three different occasions between Oct. 26 and Nov. 10. The merchandise is valued at $433.88.

Endangers child

ATLAS - A couple have been charged by Patrolman Kelly Campbell with endangering the welfare of a child, possession of drug paraphernalia, causing a public nuisance and disorderly conduct involving an Oct. 8 incident at their former home in Atlas.

Amber Marie Miller, 25, and Matthew Edward Derr, 23, formerly of 323 W. Saylor St., Atlas, are accused of possessing Spice, glass smoking pipes and other drug paraphernalia in the presence of Miller's 4-year-old daughter and allowing the child to live in deplorable conditions. Police said the girl had stains all over her outfit and writings over her legs.

Police said their former residence was condemned.

Miller and Derr were on probation at the time of the offenses.

Derr was arraigned Tuesday by Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones and committed to Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury in lieu of $50,000 bail. His girlfriend, who is currently in Lebanon County Prison, is awaiting arraignment on the charges.

Assault

DANVILLE - Kelly Losiewicz, 27, of Coal Township, was allegedly assaulted Oct. 10 by a 17-year-old Hellerstown girl held at the North Central Secure Treatment Unit in Montour County. A juvenile charge of aggravated assault was filed against the teen by state police at Milton, troopers said in a press release issued Tuesday.

Theft charges

MOUNT CARMEL - Cara Rose Yuskoski, 25, of 234 School St., Natalie, was arraigned Tuesday by Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones on charges of theft, receiving stolen property, possession of morphine and possession with intent to deliver morphine.

Yuskoski is charged by Cpl. David Donkochik  with stealing two bottles of morphine containing approximately 110 pills belonging to her grandmother, Linda Yuskoski. Police said the theft occurred Feb. 4, 2013, at 111 S. Almond St.

Cara Yuskoski was released on $25,000 bail.

Burglary charges

MOUNT CARMEL - Stephen Francis Kruskie, 20, of 208 W. Third St., Mount Carmel, was arraigned Tuesday by Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones on charges of burglary, criminal trespass, theft and receiving stolen property.

According to a criminal complaint filed at the office of Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, Kruskie allegedly used a driver's license to break into the apartment of Tyler Hill at 300 W. Third St., Apt. 4, on Nov. 28 and stole a PS4 video game valued at $450 and three-related games valued at $60 each.

Kruskie was released on $20,000 bail.

Assault, robbery

MOUNT CARMEL - Three women remain jailed in Northumberland County Prison following an alleged assault and robbery at a borough apartment early Monday morning.

Sieara Serate, 19, of 213 N. Gilbert St., Shenandoah, Brittany M. Garrett, 23, of 168 Gravity Road, Lake Ariel, and Tanya C. Morris, 34, of 307 W. Coal St., Shenandoah, are charged by Patrolman Justin Stelma with felony counts of criminal conspiracy and robbery, misdemeanor counts of theft, receiving stolen property and simple assault, and summary counts of criminal mischief and harassment.

They were arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Hugh A. Jones, who set bail at $50,000 each. Preliminary hearings are scheduled for Wednesday.

A 17-year-old Shenandoah female faces related charges in Northumberland County Juvenile Court.

Cara Rose Yuskoski, 25, of 38 N. Maple St., told police the four confronted her at her apartment about 12:40 a.m. She claims three restrained her, allowing Morris to punch her in the nose. They allegedly ransacked her apartment before fleeing with an XBox 360, iPhone 4s, cash, jewelry, perfume and makeup.

Serate, Morris and the teenager gave different accounts, saying Yuskoski was holding the teen's belongings that she left in Yuskoski's car earlier in the day. Police say Morris admitted striking Yuskoski. They reportedly found the teen's car keys in Yuskoski's garbage can and her bookbag in the apartment's living room, but nothing else, and left with the gaming console and other items.

Guilty plea

MOUNT CARMEL - Ronald W. Goepfert, 33, of 107 E. Sunbury St., Shamokin, pleaded guilty Wednesday to summaries of driving under suspension, speeding and failing to fasten a child in a booster seat and was ordered by Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones to serve 15 days in county prison and pay a fine and costs totaling $1,404.50.

An additional charge of providing false identification to police was withdrawn.

Police reported Goepfert, who is already in Northumberland County Prison, has been convicted of driving under suspension approximately 20 times, which constituted the jail sentence.

Goepfert was charged by Mount Carmel Township Patrolman Matthew Filarski in connection with a Nov. 11 incident on Route 901 in Locust Gap.

Retail theft

SELINSGROVE - Chelsea Leigh Troutman, 20, of Kulpmont, was charged by state police with retail theft for allegedly taking merchandise valued at $192.21 from Walmart Supercenter in Monroe Township at 2:05 p.m. Monday.

Crash near Burnside

COAL TOWNSHIP - Richard Drumheiser Jr., 53, of 529 S. Market St., Shamokin, escaped injury after crashing a 1993 Nissan sport-utility vehicle into a tree along Route 125 about 5:40 a.m. Saturday.

Coal Township Patrolman Chris Lapotsky said Drumheiser was driving south near Burnside when his vehicle crossed the northbound lane and drove off the roadway. Township firefighters assisted in rescuing Drumheiser from the Nissan. It came to rest partially on its passenger side, and was towed. Drumheiser was taken by AREA Services Ambulance to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, for a medical evaluation.

Hit and run

COAL TOWNSHIP - Ronald Kwiatkowski, 68, of 1459 Tioga St., told Coal Township police someone drove into a brick fixture near his driveway entrance, damaging the fixture and an Eagle statue. Damages were estimated at $450, according to township Patrolman Chad Yoder. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 570-644-0333.

Cash found

COAL TOWNSHIP - An undisclosed sum of money was found near the Driver's License Center in the Anthra Plaza lot. Coal Township Patrolman Chad Yoder said the money was found about four months ago before being turned in. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 570-644-0333.

Disobeys stop sign

COAL TOWNSHIP - Bonnie Pelphrey, 39, of Shamokin, was driving a 2002 Kia van west on Mulberry Street about 5:20 p.m. Friday when she failed to obey a stop sign at Bay Street and crashed into a Toyota Corolla driven by Tara Duzick, 30, of Coal Township, according to Coal Township Patrolman Matthew Hashuga.

Duzick was driving north and had the right of way, police said. Pelphrey's vehicle sustained front-end damage and was driven away. Duzick's vehicle sustained damaged to the passenger side and was towed.

Snow crash

COAL TOWNSHIP - Dawn Scicchitano, 58, of Coal Township, was driving a 2011 Nissan Xterra on Washington Boulevard about 6:55 a.m. Thursday when she lost control on the snow-covered roadway and crashed into a row of five News-Item delivery boxes, according to Patrolman Chad Yoder. The crash occurred at the Route 225 intersection. Scicchitano escaped injury. Her vehicle sustained minor scratches to its front end.

Disorderly conduct

RANSHAW - Charges of disorderly conduct and public drunkenness were filed by Patrolman Dave Sage against Thomas J. Feudale, 49, of 545 Sixth St., rear, Ranshaw, involving an incident shortly before 8 p.m. Friday at Sixth and Main streets.

Police reported Feudale was walking in and out of traffic with a staggered gait while carrying a beer can when the Shamokin Rotary Club Santa sleigh was stopped in the area greeting children and other area residents.

Police said Feudale remained in the area and his actions caused concern, prompting police to take him into custody without incident. He was transported to a detention cell at Coal Township Police Station before being taken to Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury. He was later arraigned on the charges and posted bail.

Theft from vehicle

COAL TOWNSHIP - Michael Kovack, 61, of Coal Township, told police someone ransacked his vehicle and removed gift cards for Boscov's and Lowe's.

Police said the theft occurred between 8:30 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday near Kovack's residence.

T-bone accident

KULPMONT - No injuries were reported in a two-vehicle, T-bone crash Monday morning at the intersection of Eighth and Chestnut streets.

Chief of Police Michael Pitcavage reported Kenneth S. Ross, 51, of 733 Pine St., Kulpmont, was stopped for a stop sign on Eighth Street at 11:42 a.m. when he attempted to slowly pull out his 2001 Ford Ranger to make a right turn onto Chestnut Street. At that point, Pitcavage said a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven west on Chestnut Street by David Aaron Avellino, 26, of 134 Arizona Drive, Den-Mar Gardens, collided with Ross' truck despite attempts by Avellino to slow down and avoid a crash.

Ross' truck sustained severe damage to its driver's side and was towed from the scene by Dave's Auto Body of Shady Acres. Avellino's vehicle sustained minor front-end damage and was able to be driven from the scene.

Pitcavage said Ross will be cited for an inspection violation.

Assisting at the accident were Kulpmont firefighters and fire police.

The scene was cleared at 12:15 p.m.

Endangers children

MOUNT CARMEL - Patrolman Matthew Dillman has charged Randy Wade Dimpfl, 44, of 38 N. Maple St., Apt. 5, Mount Carmel, with endangering the welfare of children and possession of drug paraphernalia involving an Aug. 31 incident at his apartment.

According to a criminal complaint filed at the office of Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, Dimpfl possessed a syringe in his bathroom where two small children would have access to it.

Dimpfl is currently an inmate at SCI-Coal Township.

False identification

KULPMONT - Diondre Zaire Watts, 25, of 1025 Chestnut St., Kulpmont, was charged by Patrolman David Tomtishen with providing police with false identification involving an Oct. 25 incident.

Police reported Watts gave Tomtishen a false name and date of birth when confronted after walking out of a wooded area into a parking lot behind Holy Angels Church on Scott Street.

Fugitive arrested

MOUNT CARMEL - Wilburn Harden Denman, 46, of 50 N. Maple St., Apt. 301, Mount Carmel, was arrested Wednesday by Patrolman William Adamski for being a fugitive from justice.

Police said Denman, who was wanted by authorities in Austin, Texas, for unauthorized use of a vehicle, was taken into custody following a domestic dispute at 8:40 p.m. at his apartment.

Denman was incarcerated at Northumberland County Prison, Sunbury, after failing to post $50,000 bail at his arraignment Thursday before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones.

Simple assault

ATLAS - Jason David White, 21, of 306 E. Columbia Ave., Atlas, was charged by Mount Carmel Township Patrolman Matthew Filarski with two counts each of simple assault and disorderly conduct and one count of harassment.

Police reported White is accused of assaulting his girlfriend, Crystal L. Vankirk, on Dec. 6 at White's residence.

White remains in Northumberland County Prison, Sunbury, after failing to post $25,000 bail at his arraignment Wednesday.

Disorderly conduct

SHAMOKIN - Annah Ortiz, 41, of 1447 Pulaski Ave., Coal Township, was cited by Patrolman Scott Weaver for disorderly conduct after she allegedly tipped over a Dumpster and took items from it behind the Salvation Army Thrift Store on East Independence Street at 11 a.m. Sunday.

DUI

COAL TOWNSHIP - Zachary John Tyson, 27, of 416 E. Cameron St., Shamokin, was charged by Coal Township police with two counts of driving under the influence in the McDonald's drive-thru shortly after midnight Nov. 13.

Patrolman David Sage said Tyson was discovered asleep at the wheel of his white Jeep while it was parked and running in the drive-thru lane at 12:32 a.m. Tyson smelled of alcohol when officers woke him, Sage said in the criminal complaint. He also failed field sobriety tests and a blood test revealed a .236 percent blood alcohol content.

The criminal complaint also contained a statement from Tyson that after he had a few beers with friends "he had driven to the McDonald's restaurant and came to the drive-thru so that he could order a pizza."

'Spice' charges

SHAMOKIN - Dawel R. Lantigua, 22, of 17 S. Rock St., was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia after the drug "Spice" and rolling papers were found in his bedroom by county probation officers at 6:23 p.m. Friday. The charges were filed by Shamokin City Police Cpl. Bryan Primerano with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin.

Endangering children

SHAMOKIN - City police officer Nathan Rhodes charged Martin Golder, 35, of 38 S. 7th St., with endangering the welfare of a child and possession of drug paraphernalia following an incident at his residence Dec. 11.

Police said in court documents they were dispatched to the residence for an alleged heroin overdose and found Golder laying face down on the bathroom floor. Police also found a plastic bag with a hypodermic needle, a spoon and a small empty bag of heroin in it. Golder's 11-year-old son was home at the time the overdose happened.

The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic, of Shamokin.

Drug paraphernalia

SHAMOKIN - City Police Cpl. Bryan Primerano charged Christian Krych, 19, of 156 E. Independence St., Apt. 3B Shamokin, with possession of drug paraphernalia and an alcohol-related offense after an incident at his residence at 8:04 p.m. Dec. 12.

Police said in court documents Krych was found in his residence not feeling well after an alleged overdose of prescription medication. When police came to his aid, officers found a beer can adapted to a smoking device with the residue of burnt "Spice" on the smoking portion of the can. Krych told police someone must have broken into his apartment and placed the beer can/smoking device next to him.

Because Krych is underage, police charged him with underage possession of alcoholic or malted beverages. The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic, of Shamokin.

Corruption of minors

MARION HEIGHTS - Michael A. Filipczak, 22 of 1580 Chestnut St., Lebanon, was charged with corruption of minors, selling or furnishing liquor or malt or brewed beverages, and two counts of criminal conspiracy following an Aug. 17 incident at an East Clermont Street home.

According to court documents filed by Mount Carmel Township police Patrolman Matthew Filarski, officers were called to Marion Heights for a noise complaint and found two individuals under the age of 21 drinking alcohol inside the residence.

An investigation showed Filipczak and another individual purchased the alcohol for the party and allegedly knew there were underage individuals attending.

Filipczak was arraigned Wednesday on the charges by Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones of Mount Carmel and released on $10,000 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled before Jones Jan. 7.

Nuisance violations

SHAMOKIN - Two individuals were cited Dec. 16 by Shamokin City Police Cpl. Bryan Primerano for violating Shamokin's public nuisance ordinance for the condition of their properties. All the property owners were previously sent a certified letter advising them of the code violations, but no response or corrections were made, Primerano said. Each was cited three previous times by city code officer Rick Bozza, also with no response.

- Daniel Buranich Jr., 50, of 152 Bates Road, Shamokin for his property at 24 E. Willow St.

- Christopher M. Elsayed, 39, of 201 E. Sunbury St., Shamokin, for his property at 116 W. Sunbury St.

M0UNT CARMEL - Nicholas Karlaza, 23, of 300 W. Fig St., Mount Carmel, was cited by Lt. Christopher Buhay for harassment involving incidents at noon Nov. 21 in the 300 block of West Fig Street in which he allegedly repeatedly harassed Aaron Frantz of Fig Street.

Public drunkenness

MOUNT CARMEL - Three people were cited for public drunkenness relating to separate incidents in the borough.

Patrolman Justin Stelma cited John Curly, 22, of 117 W. North St., Marion Heights, involving an incident at 4 a.m. Nov. 27 in the 200 block of West Sixth Street.

Robin Brown, 44, of 50 N. Maple St., Mount Carmel, was cited by Lt. Christopher Buhay in connection with an incident at 11:30 p.m. Dec. 3 at Fifth and Oak streets.

Andrew Snyder, 46, of 350 S. Vine St., Mount Carmel, was cited by Stelma relating to an incident at 1:30 a.m. Thursday at Fifth and Oak streets.

Police said Curly, Brown and Snyder were found unresponsive and under the influence of alcohol.

Disorderly conduct

MOUNT CARMEL - Adam Gondol, 41, of 625 E. Fourth St., Mount Carmel, was cited by Cpl. David Donkochik for disorderly conduct for screaming and fighting at Second and Poplar streets at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Plant burglarized

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP - State police at Selinsgrove reported someone broke into the US Concrete building, stole numerous items and caused damage between Nov. 28 and Dec. 1.

Retail theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Maria Hill, 31, of Danville, has been charged by Patrolman Jason Adams with retail theft for allegedly removing merchandise valued at $181.94 from Walmart Supercenter Dec. 6.

One-car accident

EXCELSIOR - Andrew Popiel, 30, of 400 S. Shamokin St., Shamokin, suffered minor injuries in a one-car accident Saturday morning at the intersection of Route 901 and Lower Excelsior Road.

Coal Township police reported Popiel was driving a 2002 Mazda west on Route 901 at 5:08 a.m. when he lost control of his vehicle while it traveled around a bend. The car struck the end of guard rail at Lower Excelsior Road and went airborne into a creek channel.

Popiel was transported by private vehicle to Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital, where he underwent emergency room treatment before being released.

The accident remains under investigation.

School assault

COAL TOWNSHIP - Four students, a 17-year-old and three 15-year-old students, were charged with disorderly conduct following a fight in a third floor hallway of the Shamokin Area Middle/High School Dec. 15.

According to Coal Township Police, several teachers had to break up the fight, and a female teacher was pushed to the ground. Her knee was injured and required treatment from the school nurse.

One 15-year-old student was also charged with aggravated assault and simple assault by police.

Public nuisance

SHAMOKIN - City Police Cpl. Bryan Primerano charged Jhoel R. Leonardo-Gonzalez, 33, of 22-11 Brookhaven Ave., Apartment 5F, Far Rockaway, N.Y., with a misdemeanor crime of public nuisances after failing to respond to 11 citations and code violation letters in a 11-month period.

Leonard-Gonzalez is the owner of record of 625-627 E. Commerce St., Shamokin, which has a number of code and safety problems, including portions of the building being in danger of collapsing, detached sicing and rain gutters, high weeds outside and broken glass inside.

The charge was filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III on Dec. 18, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for Jan. 27.

Disruption

COAL TOWNSHIP - Two students, a 16-year-old male and a 17-year-old male, from Shamokin Area Middle/High School, were cited for disorderly conduct after the two engaged in a fight during a program at the school at 2 p.m. Monday in the school's auditorium.

School district employees were able to remove both students and the program resumed.

Criminal mischief

MILLERSBURG - Misty Lynn Dunbar, 19, of Elizabethville, and a 17-year-old Millersburg female were charged with criminal mischief by state police at Lykens following an incident at 10:34 a.m. Monday in the BG's Market parking lot.

According to police, Dunbar and the female drove to the market and parked next to an unattended vehicle driven by a 17-year-old Dalmatia female. The Millersburg teen then stabbed the Dalmatia female's rear passenger tire several times before the two fled the scene.

The incident was captured on security cameras outside the market.

The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Rebecca Jo Margerum, of Elizabethville.

Simple assault

SHAMOKIN - Tiffany M. Vezo, 22, of 9 Raspberry Hill, Shamokin, was charged with simple assault and harassment following a fight at her residence at 5:05 p.m. Dec. 13.

According to court documents filed by Shamokin City Police Patrolman Scott Weaver, Vezo got into a fight with her boyfriend. Vezo allegedly pushed him out the door, bit his arm and kicked him in the groin.

Charges were filed Dec. 18 with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 27.

Retail theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - A charge of retail theft was filed against Beverly Ann Deskie, 52, of 629 Logan Run Road, Danville. According to police, Deskie allegedly tried to leave Walmart without paying for $118.65 worth of clothing Nov. 22.

Deskie will have a preliminary hearing on the charge Jan. 27 before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin.

Drug paraphernalia

SHAMOKIN - Whitney M. Bostian, 24, of 1013 N. Franklin St., was charged with retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia following an incident at the Dollar General store, 30 E. Independence St., at 8:58 p.m. Thursday.

Shamokin City Police Cpl. Bryan Primerano reported in court documents store personnel detained Bostian for allegedly concealing $36.32 in items underneath her clothing.

Police searched Bostian and found heroin wrappers in her purse. The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 27.

SHAMOKIN - Two defendants pleaded guilty Tuesday to various offenses and were ordered by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III to pay fines and costs.

- Kevin J. Stouffer, 26, of 104 N. Poplar St., Coal Township, was sentenced to one year supervised probation and ordered to pay a $200 fine plus court costs after pleading guilty to a charge of disorderly conduct Tuesday.

He was charged by Coal Township Cpl. Terry Ketchem Jr. after a June 17 incident at the Plaza at Coal Township.

Charges of simple assault and harassment were withdrawn.

- Jordan L. Poplaskie, 24, of 3072 Upper Road, Shamokin, was ordered to pay a $200 fine plus court costs after pleading guilty to a citation for disorderly conduct.

Poplaskie was charged by Coal Township Police Patrolman Edward Purcell Jr. in relation to an Aug. 9 incident at Maple and Poplar streets.

A misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct was withdrawn.

Theft from display

THARPTOWN - Township police are investigating the theft of $30 from a donation box at the Christmas display in Tharptown during a power outage Tuesday night.

Money in the donation box supports the annual display set up by Tharptown resident Jared Dunn and his family. The display, which was vandalized last month, features 110 wooden decorations, 325 plastic figures and thousands of lights.

The power outage is believed caused by a fire that destroyed one home and heavily damaged two others in the 900 block of West Mulberry Street, Coal Township.

Anyone with information about the theft is urged to call Coal Township police at 644-0333.
